This is the average Tho avage podcast, with Paul Garino, everyone in anyone, athletes, soets andmuch more whateeeon. The fourth episode of theaverage savage podcast igot special gast actor comedian, an author, AndyWasi, Andy How's, it going hey PA, it's Calle Great. How about you? It's goingall right! You know it's getting a little hot out here, yeah thanks for having ohocol whatever. Sowhat's this jump right in in tell me a little about yourself and then I'll askyou some follow questions, wow, okay! Well, five, foot! Nine! I like OK onthe beach! No, I you know, I think, speak of actor comedian writer. You know I wentto school. I wanted to be the next grude sports caster and I went to Syracese Univers Iwas Gon belike bobcose some after about a year. I said. Oh, it's all about sports and Ian sports that I don't even really follow like hockey or shoccer atthe time, and so so I got out of that. But I've never stopped being a sportsfan and a lot of my writing ends up being aboutwhat I grew up with with the first se. Books were all red, sonks Yankee Fanbooks, Ya. You K, O, I moved out to California asandems. You know gn, writeand features, and ironically then I had di these ideasfor these books out. Boston fans, Hich, okay, so I'm out in La but the marketis, is in Boston. So I wrote how to talk to a Yankee Fan and then that made fun of Yankee Dams and reallywas quite biting, but I wanted something a little more stolf depricating in that was red, stucx university and then it happens, the one that makes fun of both Fan Bass, reat sea SOMOS, an tans from your anes. Now Youringis Snot, my choice ofclimate, but the publisher said Ho: It's going to be great, we're going tosellitat the Boston ans and they made it. Basically, if you read thebook, it's kind of like saying that we're all crazy and we are.But if you look at the cover, it's Oh Boston. Fans are way better than NewYork fans, but but we are all crazy and, as it's you know, progressed over thiswas stock in ofor I started he idea f, the first one, which was an opportunity into seriosys university or a lot offans, and my friends were Yankee Fans Jis you had to put up with Anon ofstuff for a while and sojus gave me an opportunity, get back at them without atalk to an can. So so that was in the the ax that I wrote those to books. Soyou know you look and really everything that we say. I mean Yankees Red Se, Ris, like a Tehan Nailrival that...

...you know Yankees Aroun, about spendingcot ne spenging in the red, trocks anthes, just homeon and ow. You seewho's got the Youare just payroll in the league and yeah. So it's thingshave changed but yeah. Then I went on and I er screenplays Gon and then Iwenthoywood development track wich. You know it's just like a roller coaster, ide and GI. There's no Gante at the the ride and back at the Panforan cantuallyTBA cliff and some of the books call one is theDelt Puerty, which was a fun little Kewho get a stirt film on that withGoan go by winwardwinner, Barry Bosswits was fun. The paroty of those ts sexopating videos, this one about going from middle wage to enteringMiddle Aige. So and then you knat the writing, always withskeppism, I'm writing plays and I'm puttingtogether a state going way with some some comedy well, definitely withcomedy, but hopefully that'll beon deon stages, soon enoug. So yes, that's Al!You got so after you have Syracuse. She became a comedian firsurent correctyeah. It was a way to put myself out there. You can otalmeand there's everybody. I got this and I'm doing this and well look at thehero. I was sitting at homeworking on Lonwa called a spuck cript, which isutake a TV show that exists, and you do your herson of as if it was seen onnext Thursday at eight on NBC Muse. You know you've written it and Hopetopeople look at and go wait to just really air, so you put in the samecharacters and make it professional and Yo do that other side, enm Tryi to shopit around PAC, wooe, Saoco, ow good. I, but I looked in the paper and there wasan Openhu comedy. You know three minutes an yeah. You get there at sevenPM and at the last factory world, famousnofactor SOI'll. Try that nthree minutes. I do it a couple times wincollege, something I'd rather forget, but still and then N M and they go no Ooyo. That's when the show is ou have to sign up throughout the day. It's where thefirst twenty people sign up. I so wn. When do they first start getting there?I don't know I and people at the club were like we get here like you know twoand there's already people min before to and then he's not to anotherComenians a Hos here son, I'm gonna go and wait othe side Lon for twelve hoursand yeah. That was that was it just to promote my my reading. Inyo get themeat throu teectes good, you get to...

...meet the owner, he would coitique youract is using town coma. He was a comady manager, e butes, almost some samouspeople and you know it bring you over after you buddy. You do something withyour eyebrows. I pray Dibroseyou, you must lake emotional in your face. So that'swhat I want to se when you come back wt the hiwhat ar you talking Aboutyoutryit again, and he goes then come back to you, elloe about Yor, family and okay, andyou just keep going through that and realize. Okay, you're not Gonto, beworking a, but that became a standup Tai, an other clubs. You make otherfriends and I ended up onon the rone for two years, which not theeminutesehalfhouif. They don't like you like when I was up in Medesto.Califoria were Rader Fans Fr sitting and you realize they're not laughingand that's a bad thing. Yeah ye o through that the bad detate a littletoo close to home. I'm sorry about that! So what does? What made you decide tostart running book? Yeah? It was. It was a CAC yeah, okay, so new about script, writing and Sitcomsand featers theyre, alldifferent N Omn, stefes they're, all very scientific. They have a beginningmiddle on an end and meanwhile it's a comedian on justsend observer life, N,writing, oo. The observations and you start to ell things and you start tohave a Lanc going on in your head or yea Yala, just a a run of of somethingon whatever the subject is, and so I used to love the books put up byComedians Woody Allens, Hartn Anjohntro even did wone, they could pick thefamous people and they were tohirt twenty twenty sa or sketches throughouttwenty entries in a book. Something like that and you know throu pages. SoI went on the road to do comedy and I wrote a book I had just I left my day.Job and I say: Don't Lead Your Day drather. I would actually repre. Irecommend not leaving Ya Dod job, but I did it anyways and but I'm going to stell this on the roadand realize people coming to comedy clubs. Don't really read! That's whythey're going to comedy Clus so yeah, so I still have boxes books from twoseenty Er twohousand hozand an one and but you know Wai saput everything downthat I had an Ikou for, and I thought we get a laugh and tat. You knowbasically always been my goals to do when I mentioned the stateshotes justto entertain Deplen do what I think is funny and what I think is going to getpeople laughing and if it's a book and again a book is not it for me, it hasbeen had to be as scientifically...

...crafted now. I'm writing a novel nowand it does need to be a little bit more following up the rules. You knowyou can't just write a blog entry for three hundred pages and and then I didthis and then I get that you need. You Know Couresa Closin, on pot, panes andtwistand tons, and you know that's a little bit more regimented, but you can still kind ofit your chapter. It doesn't have to end on the SCRIP test and on tape. Onehundred ten a book can go a few extra pages. You talk about this. Put this incu. Take that out and some especially when it's justly talking about comedic things like he, one of the shorts IVS,I've always loved, is call stors explaration and it's storing thebeating, the Viking ships from Scandinavia all the way to the new worland after just running out of ther, I mean they're, Muserbl and theyrerunning out of their rations and theyre sick in their they hate each other andthey are so happy they get to the new land and they kiss the ground at therter an so sin right now that we finally made hit. We have to get woried to ourbrothers that were safe and how that they can join us, and then they realizethe only way to do that is to get back in the boat and sinl that to tell themwe made it. So you know just a funny little stick, but but that's what I like, you got to an ofyou. What are you books coming upfrom O yeah? This is where I could use your out. I would love to do t e e, these virsalsof in an audiobook. I did one that was, I think it would be great called. Itwas a book of my personal essays Te fumiliation called not the like for me. Like the time I teported Fror, my owncalmost got to Portlall officiall. I think they were tagged Porti, eventhough I grew up here and anofficially in American Sesen. You know so etins like that and thenthe time I well, let's see it so when I growthrough time without any breaks. ATS, the first one Teek, and so this isthat's a book that would de Gran on the Ideo Cai just need to sit down and getmy studio and yeah. I went to Mitus and to fix one of my braks they six. Theysaid. Oh, we gotta. If you do the lest you got to do the right and they they gave me two haulty breaks, so Ileft I went there with breaksto still worked and I left with breaks, didn'twork, and I found this out at the second traffic like and I could notstop. Fortunately I survived iriculously. Ithink my my skill at that pole position on vidiogames in Ha kid help, but anyway, Teezer thes us come fun, an Tays that Idid an and that would be good in a...

Noteo book, so e, but nothing yet someday. Thank you for miing me e for sure. No, I know it's just getting bigger andbigger. Now with audio books and pocast and stuff like that, a people don'twant to read e. They want to just you know, be more cat, so personal on agree either. So that was SI would readthrough anarticle. I read the captons any picture find the cat in o all right, I'm goodhere pretty much. So what was your best sewing book, so fortheerswas calledPoss Bes, sellerthe Red Sox fans ar from ours, Tankee Pansar from Uranus New York, inds vessel? Are you justoingto accept that award rightdbecause? They want me dead. there. OIT Is funny thoughthat that wlbe thatwas teafter tot I sot down, and I tought and I workd on, and I craftedhow to talk to Yankee Sand for many many months in my head. I mean that was just likebuilding up and then from there I said you know: Let's do something on red SOxfans, an Os, alon, iterial, atorical, universthe publisher, before ridsoxuniversity was about Ti at the shows. Eh haven't been on the SOLT IP. Youneed to do another one I sai Owi have anything else to so. Obviously you know you go throughthe book. Torend you get inspired, okay, I'm not reading the BOOPS, but thecaptuns or the titles, and I saw afomarsme fo ego, that'ssomething that so it was the aftertogt I put together. You know you kind ofrepackage re purpose and, but you know take it in the template that was manner from ours.Women are from thiing te same. It ended up being the best El anineresting catthat I figured out. People would rather hate than love, because reox universityis kind of just Cret ox os didn't sell as well as how can we get those YankeeFans Yoo this? These are great giftsholidays birthday and you know nobody wants to know aboutthemselves. They want to bash the other team, so thats o talk to EAN es HoBresex Hansare from ours, we're the two big ones but yeah that one I'm gratefulfor. So it just came about because the publisher said do something else: Yeahthat makes e sense, even though don any cense for make sense yeah. I knowit'I'T enougwe brought up to love, yeah, guess it's not in US ocabary yeah no kidding, but before we get topolitical yeah yeah, you know, USA, you know and sostep, and it's funny I didn't have anything more for books Bhen. I IAI youknow if, if all the books are being you know given out like nobody needs to buythe book twice, R, be given it for two birthdays, but I I tot birthdays peoplealso with the books. They'll get a...

...greeting card, so I've come up withthese sports rivalry. Greeting CARDSCOM and Ihave some- I started with Red Socx Inkey greeding cards. So it's one wherea tree is falling on e on the cover, and it says I'm sorry that te on your birthday atree had to crop down in order to make this card and you open it up, and it'sfalling on tee house of e Yankee Fan and a wel not that sorr yeah hatred, it's all about hatred Soso after he released three books orright yeah and last year was itthere were three moks sitting in I tcall inTheq io, at files and after writing. For so there've been times when I'vewritten cluge and then ot sang these projects. Also, most of them have not.You just keep writing riting, writing and you getting like. Turning out, I like reel just running running running andyou know something squirtts out. You know a book squirts out there and youforget our script, and so I was looking at files and I s like La Istthefallback plan with the heck and Everyin. You know it's a SCRIPO roat tat Iforgot all about, but also there were books which ere half Don. I tellpuberty y the book of assays. I had all these essays. Okay, let me let me putthose together. It's Dona wone else, ind sa since I put something out sothat one, the other one and then a book of just the estays. I was writing myREDSOC. An e books got me a job writing for Yahoo Sports Asis world, and so Isaid well, you know it was nice. If people read it when it was posted money,so these were posted, but I want to have it in one. You Know Unportfolio,so I love the book to Top sports at the dinner table, which you know speaks tohow we talk. We say: Oh, we never talk. What is it politics and religion? Po is theyre upthere as Wellso. That's where the title comes from and it's my favorite cover that I that I'vegotten to do so yo see it was pretty cool. Thank you. So two of the books, Werk sports books,so inspire you to write those- and I know you just said before that you'reworking on a novel now, so what's that Ol Yeah, Oh yeah? Well, the novel is onSPO Alasweond Question of the first quesionsecond, but t the novel. We grew up in in Bosnton, where I grew up in Bos weishe AAn but and the Agus they have the Tu fun, which is for kids with cancer yeah. I had an acent for my books and se she's, not my agein Anymai, but sheas great o support,...

Tha Baseball Fan. That's why she hecomes on the first book because she was Rit, sux Kan living inNew York, but she said you know you should do a kids book, baseball and t seems like your styleand probably be good and Hain trouble coming up in an idea. But there were you know: you see momentswhere big poy goes to Tis it the kid in the hospital and every August of the players doing thisand they're always raising millions of dollars. So I thought about a book amount, aplayer who goes to visit a a kid stricken with cancer, and the kid asksget ait for me. U Seems like a shing, a kid would do, and so the pree we be ina sump get to hit an then another and another, and he realized e keeps goingback to the kid and the kid keeps saying getting. Iton Youself, asplayers are Ar supescitious. This becomes his routine thin, so it helpshim to get hits, but now they headkeeping the kialives, and thistakes Pae, one thousand nine hundred and sixty when cancer is not. You knowso curable and I wouldn't say curable now, but it was not so truatable so soit becomes. Is You know what keeps the kid life there is an element to face? You know those fans that stae alive for the Red Stocx Toe two thousand and fourin the the cops thisn. Sixteen right, you know where now I can. Finally Gohundredand Foy, Ino you know they're like hundred and three. My grandfather was the opposite. He was one tuninended and eighteen to two thousand and three. So he was like.I can't take it anymore, crzy eyeho that and then he one inspiremen forother books. One of them is o Tia, and that is when that Oetron time begin tokick up, I mean so much o the culture. That's the same thing with the red socxYe Yo know knowing every aspect every moment, every young you now theunderstanding, the subtect in Ethe suble and that's what hollyhood became. So I sai do the same thing. I did except that with the red sokanes books.Let me do it for living in Hollywood. You know again with humor of underlying because people thinkin Holywood. Whenyou say it's interesting, if you say hey pause, let's go lunch, which is the same place. Let's get lunch, let te ton you go. Yes, we'recan we'll probably get lunch together, but if we say AH, let's Tun, let'sdefinitely do lunch once you put in. Definitely it is the negator it's. Thatmeans definitely a hundred percent we're not getting much and people. Youstart to pay attention to it d. You notice iini thinks my theory and thenyou put it. You know the hypotasisand and you start to talk to one person andhe says it you knowthat's interesting.

That's when I was thinking nokaysmessing with me, yuall get together and because that's what it is when you SAdefinitely yeah yeah. Definitely definitely you realize yeah we're notgetting much. You know in Boston in the NE Northeast. You Know New York. Idon't like you when not getting lunch, but but out there, it's Allno, definitely definitely yeah yeah definitely set it up. Okay, so that'sthat's why I wrote that it just there was anyinstaces t like this Bot, ahunedghty pages worth of that a that's. How book comes up Yeahi mean you Wer, a million ofthoseif you're living in different parts O exactly. If I had all my life, I wouldbe right all the the sports fan, rivalries and all the you know. Just when people move to KHOSE MEMPHIS,some sort of stuff about memphors whic is great emphis brimer. Also I wrote the book and I was callingit Hollywood trimer. Apparently it's pronounced PREMER, which I found outafter it came out. So just a little English lesson for Youso. Let's justjump into some baseball questions. unlons you got anything else more toSayoi. have nothing else, do no Wen newbook is com ou or not? No, that isat the deginning of the process that the third the research is down. Italked to doctors in the Israel and then he cikens, Hoscaln Sano. You knowfind out okay. What can I get away with it' funny techildren's hospital in Laalso he wases great, because he consulted on a movie before I don'tknow if you remember before our time really boy in the Plasti bubble wasJohn Traholta. Do you remember that, but yeah okay, and so this doctor Doctr Hego? Ibelieve he consulted on that and he watched the movie and he said Thar orhes house script, and he said you know, I see what You'e done. I'm not sure itwould be okay if the boy had sex in the bubble and the screenlater goes. ListenDonkees, stick to curing kids and I'll. Stick the movie! Writing! Okay! So allthat you see that you know got to be actor. You can also take some liberties,so anyways, I'm at that process of just you know, jrucking a few projects, but one ofthem is the novel, and hopefully it w'll be done in about now six months or a year, depending onhow fast I get to it, and that's only a first past so yeahhow long does itusually take for like a full book to be complete and published and release yeah. It's funny depends on what your brain has accumulated. I mean there is thefirst Brend Stox Book I think, was written in six weeks because it's justlike you're, you know hereall the ideas I just what I call the crap draft putthem all out there and then you start Toi lip. You got a Bik Glonk of clay, and then you know you start to chisel away at that, butyeah screenplayes, both six months and...

...you know Sgreat as that's WHA Hunan.Ten pages like I said so, you cosit, going on thirty pages, give Er, TAKthirt thirty, two th five, and that you could probably doing you know six weekstin, Itto, the Polish. So you know a couple weeks to write it and then- andthen you just spitch Chinan, but if you're working on a show, you don'thave that kind of you're, always juggling either rewriting somebody'sscripture or regiar. So not about you know wee te judo yeah, you know forAgena, just getting it in the Ballponon Tou. There it' s all about rerinting,so wet's Goin to these baseball questions. How? For how far do youthink the ret sots are going t hure yeah? That's I think the furthest they'll go isAnaheim by plane, but guard it'Sthey, OA taentsteam, there's something missing. So I think I just I seethe alcs as a as asticking coin. Now den Bros could make some moveent to deadline, but I wonderif you see them as well as just I mean the David price lacking, which I neverlike David Drea Oly, because he goes corly in the playoffs and they saonknow this guys, a Gamer es, Truy, oers, Oun yeahand. Now he's not even pwell. UHe wasight before thirty, because they ironically teygave up John leister. Youknow they didn't sign him, so they could go on and get present. Wester wasnames AF. The picture of the week in the was that Sal, but yeah it'it's aproblem so there there. I love that they're hitting but and te they san to be having the key to have me. Onthe play E S as they've been oor the over ed sonWertin for caps. Twenty four players othe s sthere- is that but SEM nowadaysneed a natural disaster or tragic in order to motivate the team to galbanizethe team in the city, but we don't want that is NSO, et's, say alcs and theYankees Dewory, so you sayng they're only going to the lce. I think thatwould be reaseole. You know. I think that that'sa good girl, thewo sersal go, but I had something: That's when EPR RSS ree othe window, and you just hope that you've got. You know this sale andPercello, because you know for Sellem I's Gon, O four point Loa blow for Tera, and that's your you know, always with many wins, but giving up form rooms inthe playoffs. Assuming that he sticks to that is not you know your best bat.So at least you know, sale October eseesLi gayways about twelve. So you know so blu et so you now the desire holds out.I know Patros to do fine, nock Onwood,...

...but until later, but we'll see sothat's a prediction: Muckit down so who's your world, serious, Predictin, yeah! That's that's a good question. You can eliminate, not yeatle. I thinkyou know they're a little playing above ther theres pay grade right now. You know I love carry frank coming out, neverput put it pastthem that that they could make a run fours last. Theydidn't I'm not going to think the God wos getback there, but and it's and it's UNSAL, looking how I head shon all this. Likeyou, you know this is probably why I'm not ony SPN, because the like it's athirty minutes. Gol Youve got to make any Makid trodiction, but you knowHouston, it's they are really good and- and you knowI always hate you know something always happens. I always hate to choose. The the repeat champion hasn't happened ina long time, but I mean these guys asee they want and I think they can do it,but outside of that Atlantas coming on, I mean Ayin a couple years. That wouldbe an easy pick for me, but all right. So, let's just say anybody, but thenest. Don't know that's my prediction for Houston. Is Anybody Witin, Thi,Idai think hs gonna win and the ret Amake Theac? Yes Houstonan, the Yankees.Perhaps I thinkyeah you know I like I like Dos Osomof dangels Ye have a lotof fair weathe fans, but they've since held on in a few since twohusand andtwo so is you know nough for me to you know like them, and I love Mike SOCsyoursof o. Why not any of any of the southern California Tomscan make a run, and I would support that.Wattermoeon, your MBP Predictan, an an Outdaoni, Ayeah TA. I think you know you gotta go thinkMuky Sonna, MS! Oh my gosh, that's yeah! Yougood point. You Imagine how twenty ive million for what he's doing in t enwhan's, that a third of what Stantin is doing, yea yeah and you know, but yeah but Luky I mean I oKno, my Os as great but the NL. That's that one harpers not not pulling his weight thisyear. Is He fs Gosh? I think that's a Tossim EH. Ican't yeah. I can't even yeah that that's going to be in. I got a PaulGoald me coming back, hearight, no right exactly but yeah he was a littleschool, but I mean go. Tomit is is great s on the most underrated in theweek absolutely and You knowte they rea the dodgers. Talk about you know any oftheir Felo anwest es like the you know,...

Yankees Toko well. Have I next yearwouldn't be you KNO, WAN he'll sign with US definiteyself tinks log Nhiscontract up butbuthop. I hope they stick around Arizona they y they could. They could make a run and he would be amajor factor, but he'd have to get has to show up in the playoffs as well, andI know he had some trouble last yearself. So my last question is I'mfrom Connecticut. So what kind of fan do you think ar you depends? There is the Muslim Jewyline there's the Mason Gip,Som n for the northself and the month in Du Line for Connecticut. So Idepends on if you're on the west side of the Monstin and it's basicallyle,Yoan Wut the cannetic griver down to Hart so which side are you an I'm inthe southern Connecticut, seven Connecicul? Okay, so thi, I'm just gonna, just kin o take a staband say you're a Yankee Fan, yyeah oi it' about Lovyou know. I think ifyou read the ES fans you're, not from Euranas. Iknow that SOM CONECTICUT ere different places. So it's you know and again it'sI want the. I want o the battles. Again. I want pedrothrone at somebody I'L fant,Ogreen, Garcia, attacking a guy in the Auhe's dawn at Im. You know you wantton, Simmerd, IFE body, slamed a eon, maybe not that violen Buti. You KnowDote Chamber, eeno Kevin Uclis. I think the other yeah, I think the otherproblem is a lot of them are like friendly and friends. Now, like Esbut,it wastathanyoelike the ABSENC, but no but yeah ot, something hat that firs well, okay, help Sho, selfishly its first book sales, but at the same time it's Justaeare eighteen games, you that they're playing with each other IMEA W it was,I think, let's see six and maybe twelve Wi. You know made it more and now it's just wateringit down. It made it more intense back then, but you know short of that as long as theyface each omen, the playes it's going to be fun and I think we're at a point. The ret sox ever had a chance ofcatching the Yankees Championship. Count in you know three of my ownlifetimes, then Yo like O. I don't want the Yankees Tin, but you know what, ifyou guys win and then we win and Youasi ooff water under the bridge. It's justyou know, make for a good season and and let's let's enjoy and then let'stalk a little trash Y N, forthe, Yankees Red Sox, a s right well, thatwould be nice. An that obvously depend...

...on the seeding, but a good point: Wait:could they because they're in the Sameo yeah could actually iwant it could onlybe in the LCS anyways? Doesn't matter regard et's, I yeah. So there you go yo,ie yeah know, that's nothe way, buthestrying to figure out what they're doing, and you know what they might do: Ond O knowpeel coming down to seven innings.Perhaps you know t at', which I don't think they will but yeah just to keepthe kids engaged. I still Nove Gone Onthe Ball Palk and just B draing fornight evnings. I might do I a Stik to the innings, but hey just being there. I appreciate you coming on the show andwork a tll find you and where Coul they find your books. Oh yeah thanks palm isonplesser thanks for having me Ummyamandyans Wasis, if put togetherand also check out sports, rivaly, reeding, Cardscom and and loifsWorldCom is my Al Purpose: Go to see everything, I'm working on and all thesstuff.
