This is the average to savage podcast with Paul Greno everyone in anyone, athletes sets and much more. It's up everybody. I'm back for another episode of the average savage podcast. Or special guests. Today's Connecticut Sun Guard, Courtney. Williams. Courtney, what's up? Good, good, thanks for coming on. I appreciate it. So let's just throw it back. How'd you get it started? Playing basketball? So basketball since I can remember paying first time uncle. We have this little recreational league for little kids on my account. So I was like only little girl on the basketball team and then I think, other than that, when I can remember my dad fin at basketball, flower put the front or sing. All the neighborhood kids will come over me being on the little girl, you know, for like I had to kind of always pull myself against the boys. So I think that's really how I got started. Got You, when did you realize that you actually wanted to like be serious about it in like play professionally? Honestly, I think professional basketball, like when I knew I could actually do it. He probably sunk in and college, but I think just going this well playing basketball. So you know, it's bars you could take me. That's where I want to go with. I just love playing the game. Yeah, for sure, and I read some stuff on Wikipedia, so you never know how accurate is, but it said that your mom played at the same high school that you play that. Yeah, so sure she did. So that's pretty that's pretty cool. So what was that like? So, I mean I got to stool up in a small town, so we just all being here a whole light. It's only one high school, so it ain't like, you know, the big places where you go to options of different high schools want to go to. Only have one of the mixed school one high school.

So my mom grew up here, my dad grew up here, so we all went to the same high school. So it's not like it was much of an option. Is kind of like always knew that I will go to the same high school that my mother went to. Gotcha, and she played basketball correct Y, she did. WHO's better? You were her through question. I guess we got the answer all right. So what about what was your recruiting process like out of high school? So I actually wasn't at all. Actually got my like legit, it offered like my first one, like Jul Years High School, and I was yourself the cut end up going to. I met Kenney Kleena, who was my child basketball coach for G be. I'm at him like going into my junior year of high school, which was probably the best best thing ever happened. I'm am out of Miami Camp, revers basketball camp, and seen me playing. You wanted me to come play place team. At first me and my mom, you know, was a little hesitant, but my dad actually was the one who who pushed it forward. And here's I get. We gonna go play for Kenny. And then once I did that, Kenny. Kidding y'all these different places got me the offer yourself. And know, my mom was like you go where they want to. You know, yes, so that's kind of that happens. I wasn't really having recruited. Really I end up having US self any all bring up off for me after I went to a camp with them, but Kenny. But you know, first come, first serve. We went to the campus, looked at the campus, my mom fell in love with it and yeah, I mean I just want to play basketball. So my mother loved it out there. So I pretty Musel make my decision for me and I just kind of rocked out and it was close to home. So I want to be close to my family. That's kind of how that worked out there. For Certainly Know Georgia College is recruited. Tell you small town is...

...like one day. So and when I tell you she was small, so small. I got like ill many kids in high school. Oh, like maybe two, three YS small. All right, yeah, I mean, I mean, yeah, it's smaller than that, too small, but yeah, it's pretty. I mean that's crazy to school from Georgia. Didn't recruit, I think. Yeah, don't really get that reky missing in my echouse. My town like the football town. You know, you got like camp baby, Chris Milton, and about my boys who went to college for football, my field. First girl who went to College, Foo basketball went one. It's so did you ever go back to your old high school? And what's that? Oh, yeah, I saw you go. And then you go to like your nephew school the other day. Yeah, it was for like a visit. He actually in this whole like getting started in school. I had to take my head to baby see him. So I had go be a mom because I'm a school. Everything was good, everything went well, right, yeah, and overall ways your experience like a USF. I love it. Great experience. Actually, coaches stuff, the players, the camps. Met some amazing people. So definitely a great see that my mom made campaign and yeah, for sure. And I know you got a lot of records there and you had over two hundred points in your average, over twenty points per game and junior and senior year. So actually, how many? You know, I'm record joff. Did you guys? You guys made...

...us hermit or no? Oh, yeah, Ye, was like playing that. It's a different type of Ashere, kind of like making it to the playoffs. Yeah, in the Wa you know, just kind of like everything's kind of on age because it's like you knows when to go home. So it's definitely a different type of atmosphere. Yeah, so that's a going like from like high school recruiting. When it was like your senior year, did you start getting scouted by the WNBALL, I mean like Senior College? Yeah, college, I mean it kind of just happened, like it wasn't something else too much talked about. Really want to focus on Sein like finishing out. So you know, I thought it I was kind of on a couple of Jeff boards and I'll kind of start talking to come on coach, and he was telling that, you know, possibility, but like, Nah, I really didn't talk to anybody, like. I mean it was crazy that I have nobody over there. So, oh, no, different, that's that's great. You just been flying under the radar. Yeah, that's pretty crazy. I mean, you get drafted eighth overall and you said they didn't like so they didn't speak to you at all like before the draft. That's crazy. So it was there a team that you thought I was going to draft you? I have one conversation and now was watching. Probably I got when I talked to the coach, like a day for Jeff. I went...

...and set up a tug the coach. He has for a couple questions, but that was only on the couch. I talked to day in the peminent number seven FIF in my job end of jest cabby. Anyway, that's that's like that's that's super crazy to me. So, yeah, I know you only played like a handful of games for the mercury, but I know you got to play with someone you looked up to, Diana Trozzi, so it was that, like I was cool. Let mean, he caught me in this sort Sam all, imagine her canny, the pre Banta bomber bringing ground all of them. You know, they kind of help all the the rookies out. You know, just wait, playing with certain things. Just come how we should carry ourselves in the type of any gas have everybody walking in the practice after practice, you know, because it is different, different. It's kind of like walking in the college third or string play having a previous of all over again. But again, like you said, always flew on the door get off being super underly. So it wasn't nothing new for me. I knew I was going to have to do that walking into it anyways, because I told you didn't I got a phone call from the coach. FIT like it was. It was Super Ned. We're going back to drafted. Where were you like when you got the call? What do you mean? I was at the dress Oh, so you were there. I didn't know if you were there. I know if it was one of those scenarios, are just at your house and they called you in and said and then you know why? The the mercury traded you like a couple games after to the CONNECTICUTT son. You could trade. They would have a conversation with a calling, but for my understanding it was, you know, they they want to bring you some you know, they want to. It wasn't really,...

...you know, go on the youthful route. And you know what Connecticut they was more so. You know, China be our team Super Young. So getting like we was really, you know, the oldest person on our team is the youngest. My understandable. Well, I mean, yeah, I just thought I just thought it was another odd scenario that you only played a few games roun, they just draft you and stuff like that. Yeah, and what's it been? What's it been like playing for the connecticuts? One, I know you guys have a solid team out there. My teammates, coach and, you know, having people around you to believe in what you can do, in actually being able to, you know, show what you can do. Yeah, so, John Myself, I mean being able to vote, not having a run. No, Bach, you're just starting point guard, right. Yes, okay, and you're about to come out of my neck for that. Huh, when I said point guard. And what's it like to have your Home Court in a casino? What was your what's your thoughts on that? I mean it's cool. It bring a good thing. We can't. We Han't done within the so, yeah, being able to gamble at the game and then like that, crap was nothing. We can see it. Employees. It's cool but, like I said, a really good I think. I think it's dope for the fans. Yeah, hit again and be able to, you know, step out, hit a boy, hit a crap table, come back. So the other day I saw a tweet by Wayne from lw productions and he said name three of the most underrated players in Wnba, and your name got mentioned a lot. Sorry, how do you feel about that? That's cool. You've got everybody else.

So a lot of people that could have been named, you know, underrated category. If you're you're just being super humble right now. Yeah, at all. Should have been like the coup of the connecticy sign. You lead all your rebound on, make all start to all that, and then that's you. You know, you really much. It's kind of like in the year that's crazy. You know, you have somebody like Grana or, you know, a star face that believe the rebound. That kind of wouldn't set up about it right. I mean I think that's probably one of the problems in the WV is just like the elite players, and then it's everybody else, like you said. That's what I'm saying and that's why, that's why I'm doing these podcasts to get more exposure for you guys. Yeah, and tell me a little bit about your overakseas experience. That's definitely seem to I've been checking you out on your instagram stories, which are hilarious. Try the best of it. Yeah, I mean if I have to go, so you know, this kind of something that we have to do. Make out money, if make a lot of money, I mean the experience, some of the expenses was cool, some of them back. Yeah, but, like I said, just yea, yeah, definitely. Yeah, here a lot of mixed reactions to overseas. Yeah, it's all right. What...

...about? What's the difference between the overseas game and in the WNBA? WNBA is a lot more. You know, you got that support your league group. Get my hair right now if I said that place is just, you know, the best basketball players in order playing the WBA. That true, like you. I'm not saying that it ain't good basketball players in other countries or other places put to have like everybody. Everybody be good. That's don't going to find in the den. Be Like the level of basketball is just crazy in the WNBA. Your catch, like I said, your catch like one of two games or teams or leading you know, like I said, your league that'll have some great players, and I mean nine times out of team, those great players going to be in the WNBA. You know, you might have a hand on it. Not Way. Oh No, it's just different. I think the level of playing the W NBA is just at a different level versus overseas. Yeah, definitely. Have you won any championship services? It's like something always happen where. I just like I've never since I've been overseat, I've never finished out of except Austin Act. I finish Australian, but that was like a lot of dead players have been play. Yeah, I'm still trying to learn about the overseas thing. It's like super confusing to me, with the leagues and all that stuff. That certainly like the sea is like like five, six months. You have like your in Turkey, Thatta go like seven, eight months. That's six. I'll show...

...you that's like and then you cry like France. That's like twenty years. Unity in that play France. So play probably a miss like the team Wnba camp in your team WBA Games. That's playing friends, because it's crazy. What are your thoughts on new WNBA LOGO AND THE NEW DESIGN JERSEYS? Any recruise it? What do you think of the Jersey's though? Straight, I like I like last year's better. You like it? Last year? Number? No, last last year. Yeah, but last years your number on the front. Yeah, they do, but they have like, yeah, that's how this year's are too. But the logo to yeah, I know. Yeah, you got your number on the front, like this year. This year, I'm saying you will have your number on the front. It'll be it'll be the logo. Yeah, yeah, maybe I like that better. You let me know what you let me know when you could try it on. All. Are you ready for some fun questions? They're going to go from average to savage. Are you ready for this? Yeah, so, why do you number ten? All Right, what are three jerseys that...

...you don't own that you want to own? It could be any sport. Okay, thank I. This is tough. Got Some jerseys I I pretty guys I want to post is okay, one of them. Which team, though? I think I won't like the original. I actually want to. I want, I want the original from Phoenix and I want I want Chicago, because shots now so that it goes. I was like that counts to right there, and last night I probably that I don't come back to say, but I got it. I just I think I want like go like a hockey Jerry yourself any teams, because I'll have all right, I'll take it. Ape sure, this is a scenario question. Would you rather go to for wnba finals in a row and lose in your career, or go to one wnba finals in your career and win? All right, I'll take it. All right. What? What goes up but never comes down? UP AND COMES DOWN? It's age the all right. What? What celebrity would you rate a perfect ten? All right, this is the last one. Who is the worst taste in music on your team. Like you won't give him the AUKS court all. I got you. Actually, I forgot...

...the final. This is the final questions. Is Not the fun question anymore. But what's your goals for the season? At all right, I like that. I don't want to win a championship, for sure. I mean, you guys have clothes you guys are close. I feel like yeah, for sure. Well, I appreciate you coming on the show and let the people know where they can follow you at. Yeah, follow court twitter and twitter. Court take no, court and Williams is my twitter. My yeah, I follows team. Yeah, you don't go on twitter. So I appreciate you coming on.
