This is the average to Aveage podcastwith Paul Garina everyone and anyone athletes soepts andmuch more. So if everybody welcome back to anotherepisode of the average savage podcast or special guest today, Iselexy Brown, lexy how's it going good, you know- is living my best life on the in thebubble. Yeah appresiate you coming on. So actually I'm about to almost releasemy hundredth episode, and I only I only record episodes of people got din, repeat guests, so you're, the first repeat: Guest Tap Hundre, because yeah that tha was. That was my goal. Iwas like I'm not going to do repeat stuff suf, because that doesn't makesense to me, because I want to get a hundred different people, I'm worthy yeah. So after a hundred Idon't care IV got anybody, but yeah you're, the first one. So so that'shistory, Istree, I'm specially Yong, so anyways yeah. So what what has beenup in your life in general? How? How is the bubble life right now? Well, the bubble life I mean when you saythat you're living in a bubble, it sounds like prison like, and it's not like that at all. So wehave I'm living in a hotel, so there's a hotel on the IM campus and then someother people are living in. You know like little apartments type things andit's all really nice. I know some something surfaced on twitter. Thatsaid otherwise, but I went to one of the villas yesterday and they're supernised wis a lot of space. The hotel is Super Nice. I was in Minneapolis last week for about almost two weeksand we were doing individual workouts and you know just getting to know our new coach and staffand you know getting to know some of the new players that you know came on. The team so, like ourwhole team is like new. I think there's like only five of US returning fromlast season, so we've just been ginning to know eachother, and you know I finally amable to just lock into basketball. You know forthe first time since I got back from oversea, so it's been rer Nice Yeah ow talking about last season, Iwasyour first season with the Minnesota link. U How did you go? It was amazing. It was so nice to be on a team and then a situation whereyou felt needed and appreciated. I learned so much. I had some reallyamazing vets on my team with me like Someonaugustis and ONS sims. You know we didn't you know we don'tplay up to our potential. I don't think the whole season and I think that itwas a learning experience for everyone, but the organization and the team isincredible and you know it' a blessing that you know.I'm part of it and no last season or last oversea season. You went to Israeland now how was at Israel was so much fun. It's like a party, soanybody who's thinkg about going overseas. You've got to stop theIsraelis one time it was so fun. There was so manyAmericans there a lot of them. NBA players there. It was like one big family really, because all the cities and teams were pretty close. I think the farthest seamwas maybe an hour like right under an hour, so we were together all the timegoing out playing against each other competing. It was a really good timeand Israel's beautiful e, the culture thet people amazing. So if youall got achance to ever, go to Israela visit or play highly recommendid, what about? Were you still there when, like the coronavirus happen, I literally leftright before I mean. Obviously it was happening like before, but when it started getting like thatglobal attention, ive literally just got that con. So I missd that that you know EuropeanBan Chavel ban. I missed all that thank goodness Weh B. Obviously that was good yeah I mean what was your life likelike when you got home I mean,...

...obviously you probably wantd to do alot of things in you couldn't yeah. I had a lot of plans oho like a lot ofplans. You know your overseas. I mean Israel 'is a little bit differentyou're, not really stuck in the house like you. Maybe are in other countries, Sou know I wanted to go like on ovacation or something, but I got home and you know everythingthat started getting shut down. It last shut down a little bit slower than someof the other places, but you know that was mar to July andthey reshut down Atlanta. So clearly you know United States hastsome work to do but and then I was a lot how of work out at my house for alittle bit, because all the gyms are clothed. Thankfully we had a gym tohoop in so that was a bless thing, so I didn't go without that at allbasketball, but like weightlifting, and things like that, I had to you know, do that in my garage, which wasdifferent, but we made it work Yheah for sure know what about likejust for seasons in general. Do you do you like set goals over here? Yeah, definitely yeah. So you got you goony this year. I meanthis year's so different. Now, because you know I just had so much momentum. Iwell. I personal ly had a lot of momenumof Howi played overseas nd, soreally prepared to step into this new role for the summertime, and you know Istill have that you know confidence, N Omenum, not so much because you knowyou have to be on the court, but I just want to. Obviously my maingoal is to be the best shoot in the league. That's something I definitelywant to do, but I still have to think about my goals alittle bit, because I have a very different role than I did last year. You Know Sheryl Cotref has me runningthe one a lot a lot more, I'm probably going to start at that position, which is completely different from myseason, where you know I got in the game and my job was to shoot, and thatwas it so o. You know I'm in charge of making sure everybody's, where theyresupposed to be getting people the ball where they need it where they want it.You know that's something I did all through college, but you know two yearsof playing a different position going back to my natiunal fit at the one. I'mexcited a little bit nervous because playing the one at n. This level isdefinitely harder than people think there's going to be an adjustmentperiod. I think, but they've given me so much confidence, so first gal is to be the best shooterin the League and goal is to be the best flow general. I don't know if I'mgoing to get that second monthis year or not, but definitely a goldmine justgoing back to the links. I know you had I d I don't want. I don't even know Idon't remember. The Umber Ti was twenty three. Maybe twenty six Wyour careerhighlast year was it twenty? I don't even know I I do know about that gameas we've lost so a I don't even cer ar we wan. We know E, so we'll go to thenext question. Yeah with the black lives matter, movement going on like what do you want to see change shot? That is a very loaded. Question Know How to ask it yeah. You know, there's like a there's, so many things that need to be changed, but the Iguess I'll, just Spek, on something that I'm passionate about I've alwaysbeen passionate about is education, and you know everyones Likeoh, the kids are,the kids are the future. The kids are the future and you know everybodystarts off as being a kid so like where we keep going wrong with these futuregenerations. You know I starts in schools. I think that it's so important, I think curriculumsneed to change. I think that we need to put more classes that help kids andpeople in life a little bit more...

...and then also classes that kids arelike interested in. I make kids want to come to school. Make kids want to bearound. You know their teachers and theire in their peers, put in more programs to have kidsbefore school after school, and I know at the end of the day all that costmoney. So I just think that just money needsto be allocated a little bit better and you know you've seen that with thedefun police and all that kind of stuff. I think that you know lawmakers politicians. Theyneed to make a conscious effort to improve school systems, especially inyou know, poorer communities, not necessarily just black communities, butdefinitely black poor black communities, because I think that's where it starts. You know you can make a you, kids, their brains or sponges. So you knowit's our job to mold them, and if you, if you go to a school witha classroom that has forty kids, one teacher and four textbooks like I don'tunderstand, hy, you could even possibly think that a kid can learn in thatenvironment. So I think that US, as of the country we have to bebetter. You know I thour education, especially with you know elementarymiddle school high school yeah. Definitely yeah. I meanespecially now, because I mean probably going forward in the fall. It's a goingto be all online and you know Weh, like many kids, have access to online likeoe own computers, and I don't know it's just like you. Have it's just such abig divide. You know Bhetween and it's not. I meanit is a race issue, but it's not always a bracisee. It's a it's a economicissue, but the fact that people are ready to put schools Ollonmine, knowing that there are communities that probably don't havemore than one computer in their house and possibly more than one child in thehouse. I cut just doesn't make sense. We just have to need more. We eed toput a better effort, I think, towards education for sure yeah. Definitely I mean I think I thinkother countries do it. So I think we could do it. Other countries do a lotof things. Te like. Oh, that's, nice, we're going to do it this way, Inthad Yeah! It's I mean it's prettyinteresting, wh n! When you look at other countries, yes, yeah going going to Duke, I know,Caroll Lawson just got hired today. That's amazing! I remember when Welfirst o problem first and Formos, I'm super sad that coach Pe decided to stepdown my experience at Duke was incredible. Iloved being coached by her, so want to say that first, when the there was like tweets goingaround about, you know who they're going to you know, consider hiring, andI know I sweeted at them like. Please hire a black female coach. You know I'mnot saying that. Oh the, like she said, hirer black people COAC, so we hired afocking, my coach, but I just felt, like you know, wit, the environment ofthe world and sports right now. You know, Duke they had an opportunity to.You know: make some noise make a spash make up I', make a Highe r that you know made sense and Karas so nausible of the game and I'vebeen able to have some conversations with her. You know with games thatshe's covered of mine pick her brain and you know I'm super excited and I think Dukeneeds a little bit of a revamp. I'M NOT GOINNA lie and I think care is the bestperson who can do that all right. So basically we interviewdthe past three years. This is Te thirt year and I'm going to bring up thevideo now, no and we'll watch like I'm goin to o it and then well yeah e' Seeif this work here all right. First of all, what is my hair go? Looklike here, O...

...look. How Sad I look oplay it I knewit AL is coming. Are you readyyeah? Could you just tell Mo Whit, PA rput Ito Meibing as a bestball playeriing, a woman I'm at least I could repay E. I lrigh every day keep it apositive attitude, talkit of them every day they Shar Shatton me with so muchsupport and love Yo I mean I wouldn't be here without themno Tue, I knowyou moved Arounda Bo younger. How did that endebout wo YOWNT wan today, yeah no whe, we moved it was like we would stay places for a long periodsof time. So didn't really feel like we were about to ge around as much as wewere. Our family's super close, so you know iasaways with them and for themajority of that time sat three siblings, but the majority of that timeis just the two of US moving around. So you know we were always together. Liketwo years apart be the most part. Olanda was home for most of the TIMIwas cruwling up and my dad was on whos kind of baancok around. We always endedup back in Morlando at some point. Oliving and I was in the placet- wasreally fun, get some experience. Ot of you, an thangs meet so many cool people because n airplane, so you Goto be able toexperience things like thatatyouag as nohe's. Smart Se, she's mar well spoken.Clovey was a better worse than you thought itwas. It was better, I mean any tipe. You talked about my family literally, you could pull up any interview. You ask me about my family, I'm going tosay the same things they love me. I Love Them. Ere Super Closes. I talkedto thim all the time. That's funny! So now I'm going to ask you questionsthat were asked during the interview and that's where the headiting comes inlater and we go back and then it 'll be funny all right. So, let's see ohwhy do you. Why do you think it'simportant to build your brand outside of basketball? No, it's so important, especially with our lead. I think that t the way the B has been growing in thelast couple years, especially for social because of social media. I meanI remember growing up. You know there was, I wasn't walking around her.People mentioned WBA players, the DBA you know as a Leag, positive ornegative, I mean some of the conversation has been negative, but youknow at least there's being conversation. I think it's super important and Ithink uhis players have been doing a much better job you knor, reaching outconnecting the fairs, especially since we have those platforms. You know to bemore in touch and engaged with our fans y would, as you you know, takeadvantage of it and there's so many opportunities out in the world that arethat are everybody's fingertipe, so wha on't. Why not go ged it yourself. It isimportant, I think, because the ballis going to stop bouncing eventually, andyou have no idea when I think that in this day and age, it's so easy to show the world your personality andyour interest. And when you have like a platform, youhave supporters or fans. I think it's so important to interact with them andshow a little bit of your personality. You don't necessarily have to show yourentire life, because you know you have your privacy, obviously in your life that you want to live, but there's so many opportunities out thereand th and being a professional athlete just open, so many doors. I man, youwork so hard to get to this point and you might as well. You know share youryour personality of the world. Definitely, and if you go back in timeand talk to your younger self, when you first started playing basketball, whatwould you tell yourself? I would love...

...to go talk, t young lex. I think the biggest thing I would sayis just don't listen to anybody else. Sode of your circle. I remember it'sfunny. Yesterday I was actually talking to my mom. She was ran into one of thebasketball rankings. People from Florida, F Om when I was younger and hewas they were talking about how they ranked me like the Fifteenh Best Playerin Florida and like eighth grade, like really who cares with eighth grade, buthe always was like. I don't know why everybody rents her. So Lo, I alwaysthought she was the best and my Momwas, just like, doesn't really matter likethose rankings like they're, just a number. Next to your name- and I knowat the beginning, when all thise ranking start happening, you know whenyou start, you know playing a you. It really bothered me that you know peopledidn't really see my potential and how hard I worked and stuff like that. So Iwould tell you know young original myself that that stuff shouldn't evenbother you, that's not what you play for you don'tplay for rankings. You don't play for accolades. You quit for yourself, wityour family play because you love a game meet to her first I', be like Gowyou're, terrible, like you probably should Makin enoug place, but I would just tell her to keep being whoshe is. You know you don't really see, at leastat my age, you didn't really see many like Super Gilly, girls, playingbasketball, a high level, and you know someone who's so focused anddriven and a lot of people with Telno your you'r kind of rude you're men. Butyou know I was just really locked in when I was little so I would tell herto you know: Stay who you are stay focusd, because you see the biggerpicture that maybe some people don't see and it's going to pay off. What about? Okay, so you said you saidyou were funny Ydyou think you think you would ever dostand up. Yo like like yet me and play grifving up ver similar senses of humorvery dry, and I think mine is like more likeconversational an like a lot of people. Think like when I say things like well, some people don't know if I'm joking or serious, which is why I think I'm funnybecause, like you never know but like if you like the office parks of Regk, like that's my that's my area right thery, but stand up his hard like Idon't know, but you know people antto, there's like people on twitter likethey could be stand up to Comedians, because really all that San up is justbeing relatable. So I think hi just sat down for alittle bit, but it's also nerve recond, because Yeu say some people, don'tlaugh our just like e Wer. I goforer, but you know like I'mmore like a like. Did she really just say that typeof funny never inappropriate? Jo, sometimes also. We can't really curse that muchso that kind of takes the edge off of some humor. What I've noticed Oronfuer, you know, I just have little gup stillhave little people watching me. You know so I can't be. You know, thrownaround f bombs and stuff like that. Even though you know Cawwayam is my guy, like Butpeoye, just listeni, WSO, Yeh, SANA comedy, probably out for meproababsolutely, not yee, like I'm, not I'm, not a joke, teller. You know I'm funny like in moments like my reactions to things but STANDA. I've like considered it,but you know hard. It is to be a standup comedian, like people likecatwims and Kennihart, like they have me cracking up just by storytelling andI'm also a terrible storyteller. So absolutely not. Never! No. This iscrazy because, like I literally listen to the interview and like you, youpretty much said almost the same thing and then you, but you talk about BlakeRiffinser, Oh yeah, because, like his his humor is like super dry like mine, but like inm like if somebody like about to tell a joke and no one wouldlaugh. I would like cry like I want to...

...be able to recover like I want to beable to come from that. Yeah like this is kind of crazy, butall right. So what Ak you to myself? My Godi, I'm sang your way happier though. Yes, what what could link fans expect foryou over the next few years a lot of growth. You know something that I'vealways enjoyed doing is coming o a place. One Way- and you know every year, bring some different BRINGNG, some new growing us a person growing as a player. So that's something I'm really excitedabout. You know we get the luxury O, you know, being able to go overseas.Play work on our game for a couple months and come back. You knowsometimes is a completely different player as a better player, so I'mreally excited to take on that challenge, going overseas and playingand then coming back here, and you know something new and hopefully being ableto increase my role in this team. Let's see links fans can expect a lotof three pointers, a lot of smiling a lot of happiness and also a lot of work in the community. So that's something that I really am super passionate about. I just neverhave had time. You know if youge from one season to the next, so I'm hopingin the next few years. I have a little bit more time to be out in thecommunity, with kids doing camps give aways. You know things like that. Youknow I'm just super passionate about that for sure Awer allwe're all done with those ones, and then my question was what was your first impression when me and my boyAaron came to Interviewyou two years ago in Connecticut I was like: Why do they want tointerview lithat literally what I thought I was like you have all thesepeople not going to play like no on Es A. I am an Yoll want to interview me,so I was definitely happy that you know I was getting a little bit of attention. THAT'S GOODSO! It was actually funnybecause my boy that he's the big Wnba Guy, hetold me he was like you got to interview Lexy Brown, like she's, dee, browns daughter, exactly that's H, but no, no, he knew you from Duke, though, to yeah. Most people know well it's funny now, because I'm like beenposting some pictures with my dad and like literally still to this day, I sawpeople like Yo. That's your dad! Oh now that I was like really because ifanybody follows me, flaying basketball, they mentioned his name at least once agame, no matter what, like literally it's, never get toe one nerBo, I love it and then last year I asked you, you were tell me how you fell about thejerseys after you wore them. So what do you think of my Jersey Yeah? Because They Change Tha Ebe? Theydidn't have the numbers on the front and that's what wewere talking yeahwere like realize that stuff yeah they didn't really bother me yeah. I liked our jerseys my favoritejerseys, though, were we have these grat jerseys that I really love welllike. We have like a cool logo, soyeah they were cute. Our JORGES are cute. Most of the I think is like thewhole league went through like a whole reebrand of all the logos, all thelovos are kind of dope. Now so yeah I like them, Mine's a littlebig right now. You know I lost ome pounds during Quontine, so your fit run ye. How many? How many interviews have youhave you done like in the past? Let's say a year shoot I don't know, I mean not as many as youwould think, because, like in Israel like that waswhat six months so that I didn't do any into views when I was there last year during the season. I did atime I post Game Media Day, all that and then this year I's been like kindof weird, so I've done like some like...

...instagram live stuff, some zoom stuffhere and there I don't know like some people like theyall like lately, people are like. I want to hearabout your struggles as a woman in the sports field. Struggle then strugglethat like can we just talk about something happy or something like Idon't want to always sound like seem like I'm complaining, or you knowungrateful for the opportunity that I do have so. I've been contacted aboutlike some interviews and I've kind of just ignored the request like oninstagram or something because I like they shout tell me what they want totalk about. I'm like I talked about that all the time like e something different, somthing funlike I didn't want interview with this girl Jenna and she had a drink and Ihad a drink like a lad glass of wine. I think she like a beer, and we were justlike drinking and talking it was like so cute, like things like that, I likedoing tuff like well, it's funny. You said that too, because I was like manlike. I want to do. Alexy Still Bu, like I don't know. If he's gonna wantto doit because, like you know the bubble, and all this I was like, we gota bar upstabar out ters like Yod, all right, whatee, just drink responsibls, all Tay Asko. Thus, all right so this the next second isthe average savage questions and they're going to be a few that I'mgoing to go back on the other one. So so the first one that we just did wastwo years ago and this one's just last year. But then I got some new ones to y.So what's your favorite Song Right now, oh my favorite song right now, that'it's gonna be in the playlist. I got the average satage playlist. I likewhat is my favorite song right now, I think hold onbecause. I listen tolike so many different types of music. Oh I like Oh, what's Popula the REMAX,which I caro yeah that's a good summer. What's your pyour social media platform, choice instagram, but twitter been poppinglately, so I don't know it might be twittering right now today I picktwitter all right so lalast year I asked youwhat three jerseys you want that you don't have. So I'm curious. If you gotany of them and they were actually you remember with three: they were no youWan an to take. Any guesses is Michael Jordan. When is Don alrigh now you said good ones: Youallright, you Sy Saidokay, a Colng Capernic, oh fats, bamilord and CN and Cobe ride twenty four yeah. It's the I mean rest in peace for getting a Cubby Jersey now fret it ever. Let's see so. I Have Not Gotanany of those jerseys. You WERT Jortes, no Mitchellandnes sent me my dad's Jersey,so that was nice of them, so hat a to which one his Celtic tersy green one, and then we were lookingthrough storage and I found an old Orlando Miracle, Wba Jersey. So not. Ihave one of those as the old FBA team that my dad is to coach, and I got aKengraphy Junior Jersey, also from storage. Okay Mariners are reds reads: Is Whiteand red his got. It's really big though, but I can make a look. Oh Yeah, I forgot Oh yeah, so actuallyI forgot so your dad started following me, O on social media, so I reached outfor him to get on an interview, but he...

...just left me: unred wower, hates s. The two enterviews he's done, Yourein quarantine, Hi've been with me because I've made him so all right, yeah he's not I mean when hetalks. He like doesn't shut up, but you know getting him to that point. I gotta be like something like me be like Dad. Can weplease do this together and then he's all iy a? What about you have a mentor do have a mentor. I mean I talkd to my parents the mostabout all this kind of stuff. So I want to call him y mentors, but no like I haven't. I still have notlike well now, I'm too old, probably but I'm sure like I could still like. Inever really had that. Teammate that you know. Oh I mean Iguess I wouldn't call Somemon my mentor, but she was like the first teammatethat I've ever had. That kind of was like. Let me help you Yis, so it was nicebecause you know growing up. I was either like I'm e team alreadyfor a while, or you know, one of the better players and then eventually, like always old, like in college, the older player, and then you know my first year inConnecticut. It was just kind of like okay, like she's, like on the team andlike Somon, was like the first person a be like. I got you like, you ever need anythingyou struggling. I got you so I want to call him. I mentor, because I don'twant to call her that Ye, but she's definitely someone I couldyou know call up whenever I need something or going through it,especially on the Cort yeah. No, I feel you because I only asked that question, because when I was interviewing a lot of people they kept on talking aboutmentors, I don't really have a Menfoer, so I was like curious to who is their mensor and like does theirmen to are know that they're their mentor and and it was fifty percent ofthe time they didn't no yeah, it's just like. So it's like Lik you look up to, but like that's, not a mentor, thoughlike some type of relationship with someone Yeu, that's. Why? So that's whyI was just like. So do you ask you're the person that beyour mental to er or does it just happen happen O yesthat's? Why? I was been interestedabout that question. So I'd ask you that all right, so these are the threethat I asked you last year. How do you feel when random people ask you to playa one on one aon te face like no, I don't want to play on o one O. do yousee freaking CSTUFF, curry on the street? Are you going to ask Cantoplaying one on one, no, especially like grown as man? I do notwant to play you what I want, and I don't want to play U for my hearteither. So don't even ask at I get that as that more than just playing one onone and Oh, it's so annoying like I don't want to play. Ono Win. Sorry, Ihad a BOT. I had to bring it up. U I want to throw up like it's so annoying at this point,I'm just like youall have to know like this is not, I think people do itlike now to be funny, but it's annoying. I innow es me. This is this. This is going to be sogreat like when I play the back to it's, Gointo, be okay, so no chick folet for the rest of yourlife or you find your soulmate. My mindset right now is: I need TikFulle more than a soin. Just today you cal ask me in a couplemonths my mind might change, but right now it's thickfully over everything,...

...oh so ma for sure chickplat. I love youchick lay, but it makes you fat. So I'm going with the soul mate. You know what last year Elexy said Itin Takboan. That is sad, and it said if that tells you what kind of mentalspace I was in last year there that I picked chick fulle oversold me also. That means I'm help, I'm healthier, because eating should flit forever. No longer is you know, appealing to me and last one: What's something thatpeople don't know about you, let's see something that people might not knowabout me. I don't know I like watching like weird TV shows, like I meanthey're, not weird, because obviously a lot of people watch them like, but Ilike watching, like like documentaries like series, so like my six hundedpound life, Ot to sai was about to say, documentaries, aren't weird, and then he had sick, underpoun life theyre, not weird, but it's just kindof like like people are like like see. How do you watch thit something that people don't know aboutme? I really like Asmur videos on YouTube. If you don't know what asm our videos are people listening, it's like Eer, like people making like really satisfying, sounds on camera. So, likesomeone doing like or somethin, we othe, like bang videos where peopleare just eating like in the Matteyeah Yeah I've gotten to that part of youtube, and I can't get out so my God so you're telling me you'rebored and you just go on Youtube and that's what you type in. Oh people knowabout the youtube black holes. They happened and I got into the SM or blackhole in I loved it. There I did. That is pretty randombut. You know youremember what you said last year that I can't cook. No. What did I say you're talking about the shows that, like people have weirdfetishes and so ohyeah still watch those yeah. I mean often theres. Now, I'm toobusy watching as som mar videos. I can't I just can't I'm literally no look this ub Lik, Iknow wh you're talking about but like I need to see like what comes up. Wouhave to and there's like diff there's like levels to it like they have onesthat, like make Yo put to sleep- and I just have like one girl that I watchsometimes it's like literally her just putting lip gloss on, but it's likereally you'll see it's like they just do everything extra and onoxious right into the macrophone.
