This is the average to savage podcastwith Paul Greno, everyone in anyone, athletes, suwebs and much more. What's up, everybody. I'm back for another episode of average savage podcast.I got another special guests for me today. Or Name Montgomery renew what's up?What's up? How are you doing? Good? Good, how about yourself? I'm good, I can't complain. So let's just jump right into itand I can tell the listeners a little about yourself. Okay, I'mrenamed Montgomery. Play here in Atlanta for the Atlanta Dream, which is aWNBA team, and what else? I don't know. This is my tenthseason. You're veteran. Oh, yeah, for sure, I'm for sure.I'm a better and I earned that title. All right. So youstarted playing basketball at a young age. Who'd you look up to in theWNBA or the NBA or sports wise in general, and did you model yourgame after anybody? Um? Well, actually, the WBA started when Iwas not why? I was not young, I was older when it started. So good, there wasn't necessarily a WNBA player that modeled my game after, because there wasn't a WBA at that time. But when I was younger, I actually loved watching Scotty Tippan, even though he's basically a defensive playerand a lot of people say I don't play any defense, though, sothere's that. So you're all American in high school and I'm sure you hada lot of offers. So what made you go to Yukon? That wasthe thing that kind of made me go to Yukon. I did have alot of offers coming out of high school. Much could have picked wherever I wantedto go. And you know the coaches on their recruiting show, theybasically tell you everything you want to hear. Well, everyone knows how coach ourYem is and he definitely didn't tell me everything I wanted to hear.He basically just came in and was like, you know, you're good, obviously, but I'm not going to guarantee you a starting spot. I'm notgoing to guarantee you this. I'm not going to guarantee you. That Ican't tell you is that you know, we don't have any bias when itcomes to a so if you want to come in here and earn your keeps, and you know, he just gave me that whole spill so that wasappealing to me because it was, first of all, different than what allthe other coaches were doing and it was a challenge. So I was lookingforward to the challenge, if for sure. So picking an Olid school like Yukon, what was it like plan for like the legendary coach or Emma andthen going on to win a national championship your senior year? It was differentthan I'm sure a lot of people would think. He's actually nice. Youknow, a lot of people see his rough exterior and you know, theysee him yelling and going crazy all the time. But honestly, like it. I wouldn't rather go to war with anyone else in a sense, becausehe's you know, he's going to have your back one hundred percent, whetherit's against the breast the other team, no matter what, if somebody's talkingabout you. So just knowing that and and the passion that he has foryou to excel, that's those are the kind of things that I mean,I just love about them. Yeah, for sure. And then after thenational championship, wasn't the draft was like a few days later, a fewweeks later, and you get drafted in there or weeks you had it rightthe first time. A few days. Yeah, it was a quick turnaround. Like you know, the parade was probably like a day after thechampionship and it was a Worldwin. Honestly,...

...like, it's hard to remember alot of that that happened because it happened so close together, but Ido remember that, you know, everybody was there to support me and thatfelt good. So were you still like at Yukon when you got drafted? Are you were? Are? You were straight to my WBA team after Igot drafted. So that it's, like I said, it's a quick turnaround. Its basically, well, you want a championship, all right, now going to be a pro yeah, God, now, I was.I was thinking if you were still like on campus while the draft is going. I thought you were there, though. No, no, yeah, yeah, which the dyeah. So what was that like? Again, draftedby the Minnesota Lincoln over fourth, overall, it was. It was kind ofsurreal. Like I told you, it was a whirldwind. But justto hear your name called, it's one of those things that it's hard todescribe unless you feel it, because it feels like, you know, youwork so hard your whole career and it goes back to when you're young playinga you don't really have summers to yourself. So then just the the culmination ofeverything together and it's like wow, okay, everything was worse than I'mreally here. Yeah, for sure. So then you only played one yearthere because you get traded to the Connecticut Sun. So then what was thatlike to come back to Connecticut and play? And then they also drafted your formerYukon teammate, which became your Connecticut Sun Teammate, Tina Charles. Yeah, so that was like we were back on Empas a kid coin and green, my former teammate, was also there to my former UCON teammate, soit was the three of us. You could have told us we weren't justliving living life. I mean the utmost it was. It was great. It was basically like we were back in college but no classes. So wewere loving it. So it's yeah, it's a life right there. Noideal life. Work and athletes out there. Y'All already know that's ideal for sure. So you had great seasons with the Connecticut Son. You became allstar for the first time, you wont six woman of the year and Iknow you had a few good playoff runs and then you get traded twice intwo thousand and fifteen. So what what was that? You're like, it'skind of crazy, because crazy in a good way, because you know sometimesit's like things happen and you get worried, like what is going on, andthen there's something, there's there's this huge life the end the tunnel thatshe had no idea what was coming. So actually, at the time Igot traded from Seattle, I had salmonella poisoning. I wasn't even actually practicingwith the team or anything like that, and I got the call from mycoach, well, my new coach, that was going to be coach Reevein Minnesota. She basically was like yeah, I heard you're sick. Basically,we don't care, get on the plane, we need you for thegame this tomorrow or something like that, and I was just like Whoa, what is us? Just like yeah, we need you, like as inright now. So it was kind of crazy because I was super sick andtrying to travel and all that, and I mean I played in the game, so I was just happy to have survive that game, honestly. Butthen we went off to win a Chane to be a ship that year.So every take everything. The rest was history. Yeah, for sure.Did you know like you're getting traded, like you're going to shopped around her? It just happened. No, it actually just happened because a player gothurts. So you know a lot of times on teams what someone gets hurt, that changes, you know, the dynamics of the team and they mightneed something right away. Or and the...

Minnesota, right away they needed apoint guard because they're starting point guard was actually out. In the backup pointguard was out, so they had no point guard. Yeah, Gosha. So what was it like getting traded? Well, you need to get tradedback. Well, you got traded bad, back to the Minnesota link. Andthen you want two championships. Yeah, that was nice. I mean there'sno there's nothing you can complain about. Anytime you can win a championship andHalbus and learn under the best, it's that time is invaluable because there'sthings that took from them that like. Now it's forever knowledge that I'll havethat I could try to, you know, carry onto the new team that I'mone here. Yeah, for sure. And then again, you played withanother former teammate, Miya more, and now you're on Atlanta. Nowyou're playing with Tiffany Hayes, and so you play with like pretty much everyoneyou played with. Yeah, I mean crazy if you're a husky. It'sgot to be hard for us to play on a team not playing with anotherHa. There's a lot of us out there. Yeah, I'm saying youplayed with former teammates to yeah, now, that's why I'm saying it's great.I mean there's a lot of us. That's what I'm saying. Well, yeah, that's for you. It's really crazy because there's so many ofus. You not play a Maya Moore and Minnesota, Tina Charles and Connecticut. Now tiffany Hayes here, glaenna green, Callie mcclaren was on a training campin Minnesota one year. It's really all. I played with Caroline doughty. It's just a lot. There's a lot. Like I said, thelist goes one I played with Jessica Moore as well, but she wasn't oneof my teammates. But I play with SUP bird. Obviously they're not myteammates, but it is there's a lot of there's a lot there was alot. So it's like it's just like awesome, this is yeah, you'regone connection. So so we'll maybe well. Made you decide sign with Phil anda dream this offseason. Well, I wanted to come back east. Was My main thing because for family, you know, like my family friendstance. This season alone, my family has been some more games than they probablybeen in the past five seasons combined. I mean they come up for aweek at a time, sometimes two weeks the time. They're actually here rightnow, but they get to come in longer spurts because it's a car rideaway now, it's not a plane ride. So anytime you hop in the carand come somewhere, it obviously makes it so much easier to maneuver, for sure. So you guys are probably the hottest team right now. Howdeep you thinker, and you go on the playoffs? Like I always say, I never like any bold predictions. I just I'm happy to first ofall be in the playoffs because coming last year they Atlanta didn't even make theplayoffs. So it's kind of a more so, I would say, arelease, because you know, I left the championship team and that's always scary. The unknown. You never know what's going to happen. You know,I'm leaving like top Notch Program Top notche coaching staff, top notch teammates, and I'm wanted to unknown. And so for us to be as successful aswe are right now, it's more so release, like who. Okay,so I didn't do I wasn't actually completely crazy. Yeah. So how hasit been like? How have you translated from like being a starter, beinga six woman and now you're a starter again? I think the transition wasa very hard the minutes I played for Minnesota links, I played a lotof minutes, you know, even though...

I was the sixth woman, Iplayed a lot of minutes. I played in a lot of big moments inthe Games and I kind of keep the mindset that, like, I've trainedthe same way. I don't train different whether I'm going to be a starteror coming off the bench. So to me there's not really much difference otherthan I start the Games because I'm going to train the same way no matterwhat. Yeah, for sure. So I so you pretty much accomplished everythinglike that. A woman basketball player that could you one like everywhere. So, like, what keeps you going and what keeps you motivated. The onlything better they success. It's more success. So I think that's kind of whatkeeps me motivated. You can never have too much. So yes,I have to rings. There's nothing wrong with getting three. Hey would beawesome. So that's kind of that's kind of the thing whenever you want tojust fuild your legacy and and that that rings is always a topic of discussion. You seen in the NBA all the time when people have discussed and who'sbetter, WHO's not? WHO's this, who's that? Rings always come upthe definite. I mean you got you got the high school one in thecollege one, right, I do. It's that's three high schools. Okay, there you go. Se's that has any pretty rare then, just forsomeone to have all through. Yeah, yeah, so some people probably don'tknow that w NBA players play overseas during the quote unquote offseason. But soI know you've been like pretty much everywhere. So what's your like favorite place beenso far? To say, my favorite place to play and the quoteunquote all seasons, is Russia. It's kind of surprising to hear, butit's more so a lifestyle choice and assist that they trade us like royalty overthere. So you know, they the apartment they put us in is lavishto say the least. And then you have a driver at all times.Seven if I wanted to go to McDonald's at two am, cammal driver,he'd come get me. It's just a different style. It's just a differentlife style that you live over there that you don't live in any of theother country so that's just so, I guess. Yeah, like be apamper. So I would say Russia got so you played like almost in adifferent country every season, right just about. So where are you trying to isthere any destinations you're you want to go to? I don't know.I heard that there was a league in Dubai and I'm trying to find meup because that's an expensive fly that's expensive hotel. So if they can,if I can get to do bay and play there, now we're talking came. We're onto something. Yeah, I forgot it. Have you? Haveyou signed anywhere for this coming season? I have, and I'm actually onlygoing to go half of a season overseas. So I'm going to take the firsthalf of the season off, and so the season is basically are threemonths. Three and a half months spans apiece. So after December, inJanuary, I'll probably go overseas. Got It. What's that like? Justgoing from like a w NBA season to then starting up again like oversea season? It's kind of crazy because it's like, for instance, when I won mychampionship last year with Minnesota. Yeah,...

I had two weeks until I hadto be in France like playing and starting a whole new season. Soit's kind of you don't ever really get a period to dtox in. LikeI think when I'm done playing I'll be able to appreciate the success I've had, because right now I'm in such a cycle where it's go, go,go, I really don't just get to sit down and be like okay, wow, I did that, like it's kind of like you're on to thenext like we won the championship, all right, now I got to gostart a new season in France and two weeks. Yeah, it's wild. It's crazy, like it's like really is. I was. I was really happywith my championship and then reality it is like, all right, letme say buy to my family and everything, because it's time to go there. One month through like the overseas season's end? Well, it depends.Every season is every every country is different. Yeah, so some seasons run long, April may it's. Some seasons end in March. It just reallydepends. And then do your coaches are like from Wnba, get like mador anything like if you're play too long or something like that? No,it's pretty much an understanding that we make more money overseas than we do herein the WBA. So it's kind of there's a there's definitely understanding. There'sit's not an issue. Yeah, this leads perfectly into my next question, which is what's your take right now on the whole higher equal pay movement thateverybody's trying to push? Look, I would love to make more money. So for me to make more money with it, like I said, Iunderstand things are a process, but of course, I mean I feel likeI work hard and just as hard as anyone else and I would love tomake more money. So if that does happen, I got my routing numberand all that ready for sure. So with yeah, like would you wantto only just play in the WNBA and like obviously get paid more and notpluck? Yeah, for sure. No, I'm saying, and not play overseas. Yeah, for sure. And be able to have an actual offseason where, I'll call it being normal wal I could go like the normalfirsts. I haven't had a Thanksgiving with like family and I'm not sure howlong. I guess ten years or more than that because I was the ucon do is, so I probably haven't had a Thanksgiving with my actual familyand like fourteen years. So just stuff that like, we don't get todo on a normal basis. For Christmas, we usually get to come home forfour or five days. Just just stuff that a lot of people don'teven recognize as a thing. Is Not a thing for us. So tobe able to enjoy holidays with family friends, to be able to hey, let'sjust have a cooked out this weekend, stuff that I just don't normally getto do. I would love to be able to do that. Yeah, for sure. And I saw Jalen rose was pitching forward today and theUSPAN buzzy. Yeah, yeah, and then the other topic they were discussingwasn't I totally lost train of thought for that one anyways. So we're goingto skip that out. Hopefully I remember so I know after your career, you said one of your goals is to be on like dancing with the stars. So what are your other career goals after basketball? Like a lot.I want to host a TV show.

I want to act. I wantto have a recurring role in the TV show. Also want to do somecommentating today around the game and that aspect. So I kind of want to doa bad one at all actually. Yeah, anyway, a rogue.Yes, any other TV shows you want to be on? Well, asfar as TV shows actually, there's this TV show called famous and love that. I like that. I would like to be on. I would absolutelylove to be on suits. That's like one of my favorite shows. Iwould like a door to be on there. I could even just be a secretaryon this show. Make me. I don't know who's new assistant, but I don't know because you can't get rid of Danna, so I don'tknow. Obvious somebody's assisted on the show, but that would be great. Yeah, that would be the ideal dream job. Gotcha. What's on yourplaylist before warming up for a game? Slow Jams, slow jam, slowjam. Was All right. Any any artist? I don't know. Ithink his name wrong. Every time. I know, you know I saidit wrong in your car that one time, so you know I'm talking about butI called extra. What is this head sharing? Yeah, he's myfavorite. So so I know you like to put fun captions on your instagramposts. So like what are your like favorite memes or like where do youget all this stuff from? Like memes? You want to know what's crazy.I definitely don't get it from means. I look at the photo. Iprobably do it in five seconds. I think people think it's just likethought out process or anything. I literally have scrolling through because our pr guynamed Dan, he sends as game photos after every game, like go thatthe people took, and so I literally want a game day. I'm scrollingto the photos and I pick one and then, like I look at it. It's probably like a ten second at ten second process. It's nothing profoundat all. It's literally like HMM, okay, date night. Nah,you thought, like you know, like it's literally like that's that's all itis. And then I put what when the game is and who were playingagainst, and it's around. Yeah, for sure could. Did you everdo anything with the dream and like take over there and I meant, liketheir social media. I haven't done that yet. I've actually taken over theWBA's that, yes, but I haven't taken out of the atlantagers. Idon't even know if they actually do that. You got it. You gotta dothat. Make sure do that. I've done with my other teams. That took over Minnesota's a couple of time. I definitely took over connecticuts, butno, I haven't taken over the dreams yet. Gotch are you readyfor I got a couple fan questions. Okay. One person said what's yourfavorite shoe of all time? My favorite shoe of all I'M gonna have togo with the for rails, the I don't know what the ones they're called, but mind's a human race. I don't know what like it's called.I know, man, those shoes are so comfortable and I love the waythey look there like a sock shoe. So I'M gonna go with those becauseI'm all about the CONFORT. You don't wear those in the game right now, playing Kobe's only at the game. Here's another scenario question. If youonly had three players, Jersey's pick for him from any sport, who wouldthey be who three player Jerseys from any...

...sport? Well, I don't knowif it's an actual jersey. If it, if this would count, but Ineed Serena Williams, I don't know, outfit. I Want Obama's High SchoolJersey and they got they got those. I don't know, but he's anyplayer and he used to play basketball, so I want it. Yeah,I want Obama's Jersey. I want Serena Williams. Is a little outfitand and you should do that for Halloween. You should do that for Halloween. There was three Williams. Yes, no, see, this the thing. This is like my first Halloween basically ever, because when we were youngerwe didn't celebrate Halloween. Would went the fall festival on my church. Sothis is basically my first Halloween in my whole life and I'm going to beone of those girls off the purche when I hope it's not the most recentpurchase the purse before this, and it's like a three girl group thing. And Yeah, I'm going to be one of those girls from the group andI'm also going to be Harley from the joker's girlfriend. I'm going to beHarley one day too. So I'm to have a three days dravagance of forHalloween. You just go back up to Yukon, you'll be good. Well, I'm not going back up to Yukon. Are you kidding? Sobery Halloween.College cames for Halloween and I'm thirty one years old. That's that's ajoke in itself. Any, back to my last, my last jersey,Jersey to have. I'll probably go get my ditty's college heat, my Ditty, which is my dad. He Played College of Football at State. SoI like it is Jersey. I have it framed up. You gotta getsome you gotta get some customized jerseys. Now he said jerseys that aren't evenaround. Yeah, it was doc you know the ones that are around.Just get those. Well, yeah, I seen a lot of like theydo, like like will Smith Jersey from Prince of Valaire, like the Looneyname drinking that. It's recently vide feelings. He went and did the Marcus cousin'sHigh School Jersey. So yeah, that's that's kind of the move, because if you just want to Lebron James Jersey or something, you could literallyjust go on the Internet get it. Yeah, I wonder why he pickedthe Mare. Yeah, I thought that was interesting too. I'm guessing theirfriends. You know that, like the art, the music world and athleticworld are like synonymous, albose, so they're probably like best friends and wedon't even know it. Speaking of that, I've seen that a lot of famouscelebrities, rappers, whatever, are going to your games. Yeah,it's absolutely personal. It's starting to be. It's starting to be a little thinkgood, like it's definitely in La Court side. Yeah, it's likethe WHO's who court side in La and we're not doing too bad ourselves herein Atlanta with with some we've had some names here. You know, Ticame here. A lot of NBA players have come to our games, someNFL ones can't pays more. He's almost a regular at our games and it'sso awesome just to see the support from...

...other athletes and just even artists andstuff. You know that they support it. So it's a great start. Yeah, for sure. Actually, I just remember the other question. Idon't know if you've seen there's like these new NCABA rules that just came outtoday. I definitely haven't seen them. So one of them was they're lettingplayers enter the draft now and then if you don't get drafted, you goback. That's now. That's that's not idea. I like that. See, I think that's that would probably be helpful a lot for women too, just because most of them say for years, but probably don't have the chance towait. No, I mean that doesn't work for us. We havea rule in the WBA that you can't get drafted until after your four years. Maybe we'll change that now so that yeah, that's that's definitely a specificallymen's rule because, yeah, you have to either have went to college forfour years or four years post high school. So you could go overseas for ayear, like if you went to college for three years and then wheneverseats for one year, then you're eligible for the draft. But yeah,we don't are. Ours doesn't work like that. So it's a great conceptfor the men, though, I guess, because it's like it's little risking forthe men, like it's like, let me just go test the waters. Okay, I'm not good enough yet, here I come, like here acalm coach, like you're back to your college team. So well,I guess they would tuck. If you get drafted like sixty like last.Well, that's what I'm saying. Now Days in NBA to get dressed youmight be making fifteen years that two hundred. Oh, yeah, true, Hey, guess man. Yeah, I don't know what I don't know what'sgoing on with the NBA money. It's insane. I remember last year watchingin the summer and all these scrubs are getting like crazy amount of millions.Oh yeah, first of all, don't use terms coups, because and millionsin the same sentence. Let's not do that. But yes, there's there'sa lot of players that are making two million to clap now, thinking aboutthat, I will not tell you I would be the best clapper that everwas. For two million dollars, I clap. I'll stand up every timesomebody dribbles. If that's the case, stand up, sit down the wholegame. I don't know. Whatever you be for me. They're making bigBundy. So so, yeah, if you get dragged this sixty, youbetter gladly accept that five million. Yeah, for sure. One one last question. I see, I actually just saw this to today, that agirl won the Steph curry competition, three point competition at his camp, andI'm pretty sure it was versus boys. So would you want to see likea w Oh, yeah, they do that. Actually they do the thingin the all star. We CANNA MBA. But would you want to see likea three point competition? I knew you were just in it, likethree point versus like guys were. Girls are all together, wnba, NBA. I mean now, be cool. I don't really care if there isone. I'm being honest, because I do look at three point competition, though. I like PA an NBA All Star and it was so fun tobe in this year. I don't really I mean it would be cold concept, but I don't really have a I don't I don't really mind. ButKudos to her. Shout out to her for winning that. That's pretty awesome, though. Yeah, there's some breaking news, like three stories I broketo you today. You heard here.

Well, I appreciate you coming onand good luck in the playoffs. All right, thank you so much, and let people know really could find you on social media. Oh Yeah, you can follow me at own any social media at Twenty One da to zeroin the word one.
