We got all Arhe, you guys ready yeah. This is the average to avagepodcast with Paul Garino everyone in anyone athletes, so exs andmuch more allright. Welcome back to anotherepisode of the average savage podcast, our special guests. Today, SylviaFellow Sylvi how's it going pretty good that cad complain should I can livinglife I'm in Soms CBODO. I mean I can't go outside much, but my front porch inmy balcony, has been my best friendn since these last two weeks and I've been enjoying it. You Know Me. Po put I stay insideanyway. It's not like I be out and about so at least you have the sun. So that'sthe thing I a HRSO. You got the sun, you cat can know. You can do your thingor you look look right over there to but friends, friends right they gontell you friends will tell you the truth. Orly Wen e, not I'll give mesome SUNDONL worry okay. So so I usually sa don't read people'sAchlades, but you had so many that had to read. somethen RISTU people knowwho's on the show all right. So you want two wmchampionships. You Wan, both of the finals. Mbps of the championships, seeseventeen two to two thousand and seventeen WMBA MVP six time all starthree time: Defethe EA three times you got your jersey, retired at Lsu.Yeah got a lot more, but we'll get into those too. We don get it til, it we're delling. Solong story short. We got a mega star on the pod right now, so I wiis it omyself a megastar, but okay put wo jus basic. If they come, you already know,I got say we got a Meaa Star on the chat. Paul is just let you know just afew things. Tha was just SODIMG. If you will have time to name everything auafter doing my research, I thoughtyou were pretty underated I like to think so. I think that's why I'm so effective, though I like goingunder the radar. So when I do ti and just like, but then Yo, you have to put thingsinto perspectivtive, but you got you like man not trying to to my own hon. I,like man, I've been doing that for years, but I bi baeit's Einesting thatsomebody of your coiber could be underate and I agree with him, but Ithink it's called like it's a a fatigue, so youin o Hol Labron is good everysingle year, so his MVP talks are like...

...not very much because everybody wantsto see who's going to do good this year. We know lebronis going to do good. Ithink it's KINDOF that same thing that happens with you. We know you're goingto get twenty an fifteem. So when you get O tenad fiften were like that'sstill, that's why you wont to put Piter Yeahshs Probablyoneto, be only one wo,keep it real like she don't have to like you, but she's still going to giveyou your prop. You know I'm saying and that's rare within that Leagu, becausepeople not giving you props, no, no. What but I'm the same way like I want to seeeverybody do good. I want to see people do damage, but at the end of the day, like I'm not going to bake, you pay notice to me, but you can't stop what Ido either. So that's goyshutit might be one of the clips ID there thiantake you ICANOO. Are you tradingDing, this crtik? What's the routine for you, man, my routine, switch updaily some days. I just want to do cardio. So I get on my bike. My bikehas been a fantastic outlek WTHE last couple o years, but I got a yard that I go into. So a lotof my stuff is just like bang, spiit and stuff, like that. I don't have likefree weights or anything like that. So just trying to keep my cardy up for themost part and stay tone is basically my main goal. So I got TA. So do you think? How long do you think that you need from the in tof quarantine to the firstgame w? What do you think like? Because you know like I'm, the same is as youso we haven't been on the court. It's a whole different field, an just creatingso how much tome do you think that you would me basically to get in like goodgameshape, so that we're healthy enough to not like injure ourselves? How muchtime from the INACCUORANTINE to the first game e Seson like if you had toget a like, I I had to Guet any, I say at least a month because talking aboutwhen that's something different, you can do all the condition you want onceyou selp oncourt that CIT's not basketball, shape and then note eventaken to like pounding and consideration happen to run of cuts anddo this and do that. So we do things that I bolly our body just nowmay youon the court like you're, not going to do that outside a d trying to work out, because you don't think about it. But we react them course. I say probablybout a good month an like take some bagging to get hitting and stuff likethat before you can even consider yourself into like basketball, shapeand great yeah for sure. How did you get involved in basketball? I kind of was forced into it. The topGirl II had three oldter brothers Yho like push me to the Max, and I reallyhated it. But then I also had a middleschool coach to like stop me for, like my first two years in Miteson and Ben,...

...he stalked me like literally every dayhe was like, come out an play. Basketball come out, Plat, I'm like dothem. So by time I got to AP. I like I'm so tired of him asking me I'm justO. I try it works. It worked. So I great was like my firstorganized basketball game. I mean I played Renin House with my brothers andfriends, but it was like thats Mus more like pick up and so lik. Actually, that's actually pretty late to start. So you started in the at grade was yourfirst official game and then so high school was like a year two years later. What was the recrow process like then, because you didn't, even you T, have teLooka youlike lead up as much as we did yeah. It was kind of weird, like I gotrecruited for high school, which I thought was kind of stupid. I was likewhyte recruit me bur, a still like it een serious is aohme Ike. I did'tEUNDERSTAND, like my potential at the point, because I was like the onlythingI can do. O was pretty much block, chaks reouin the run like that did theywas like you ket the Rebinan. You go and okay nolot shots rebout and run now,I'm not a coach, but I'm pretty sure most coaches were going all of theirbabies to specialize in those things that you say its, the only things youcould do for me. I thought I was pretty bad at that point but, like I said at Ididn't see my potential gain, but high school I got recruited ended up going to a phenemenal highschool with some of the girls that I grew up with. That also went to the fllCo incidence. We got use to investigations on whatyou mean, also cwit, a din, and so once I got to high school, I hadsome phenomenal coaches of courts and all my coaches used to push me and thatthey pretty much move me into Oo byum today, but but what about e therecruiting process as far as like? So why did you pick las you pet? A lot ofyour teamate soter Whydi, you thik, it I picked out was Jou because Su Gon.She was the only coach that came into my mother house and it just was likeblatantly rude and honest jhes feme, but this Hache came o me she was like.Do I think you're good PLAC, yeah cul be great. Yes, if you work rget it are.YOU COME LSU STAT! No, but you got to prove yourself like and everybody waslike. Oh you, goint come ere an tire you GOINTA, be this Youre gonna, bethat she ain't be my ego at all like, and I was like. I can respect thatbecause I had brothers who always been Hardan e, my coaches and half tool asalways hard on me. I never really had like a a fan club per Setiv like Boomealike. Well, you need to get better dis. Do this. You need to do that, andso, when she came in with that mindset, I was like this is exactly what I mean, because that's what I've been around all this time to get me to what I needto be. So I want ls because whos Gon, but is there any like? was there like afinal two schools or that was it Sellis...

Moto state was really up here. I alsoask that if youwere wit the like, if there was gon to be a schools in thehome area, I really like Su at Florda state to, but it was just somethingabout Bin. If what I've been here, all my life, a st like, I got yeah, I wasready to like explore to tick around who I am and figure out some things. What I like and what I didn't like, because I'm very feminoriti now I wullsay I struggle for probably like the first year I was home sick. Yes, I used to call me every daycomplaining and it took my mom one time she was like look. If you call hereagain, I'm Goingto Tell Oo Just Sen me home. I was like so wait. So whatexactly were you home sank about the food just missing the family, or was itlike? What was the mating thing? I I everything just been the youngest ofthe fibe that we have my mom's cooking just always been round my nieces andnephews. At that point, and I'm just like man. What did I get myself intoYit I like being here and I enjoy it, but man I miss my family. Like you know, and so I mean Louisiana- is a skipping, a hop away, but you know your parentsgot things to take care of. I differentiwe o away. Everybody goteverything dude, so it's like that. We all don come see nee at game Y oncachand this, as like man, te suck yeah like regular life Wenton. So what about was there any plint thatyou thought about transferrng? No, we do that L MT fivehundred players in the TasfePota Righthuh for wmen yeah, just won is basketball. So for meI wait that wasn't a thing for UST. Did you you, like you said you neverthought about it, Rightit, never! Even Cra. I tell you now how Coachi Sus totalk to us, Bac Ben All. My COACHR should have been by right, rigit's, adifferent fiel because, like I've been mad, so the question is it? Have youbeen mad at your coach? Have you been mad at your teammates? Do you just likea teammate like these? Are Whi players, a leaveand? I dislike a teammate, I'mmad at my coach. I don't give enoug playing time like those that Das neverbe a reason. I way basketball words going to be people. You don't like itsgoing to be times when you don't outshown people at work, the WOR ARD, I'm say: Obvousy we're not sayin, there's no reaon to ever transfer, but certain things you got to work, fothproblems, but it just seems like now. It's just like you get mad. I'm outyoual about is pretty much like a free agency like it's pretty weird. It isweird very weird, especially with the football ones and they're getting likehardwavers an they could play the next year. So it's kind of like I feel likeit's kind of not cheating, but I don't know like there taking advantage of it,but football almost got to be like a...

...hard waiter because they don't havethat many games through a season. So yeah, that's true, Youni' saying so Iget it, but at the same time, at what point do you balance abusing youradorty? Your ability to do so and not taking advantage of I so who knowsyeah Ho knows we'll, speak it okay. So ' let's move onto drack all right solike how did it feel to get Drafpeid? Second? Did you think you should havewent first or were you kind of? Did you kind of know? You were going to gosecond kind of both. I kind of knew that I wasgoing to go second, but I also Wantin to go second as well. Just from like listening to Tet'sreaestalk about like how things were and other Clisis, and so I just was like Iwant to go somewhere wet, I can what I can be like myself and have like trueidentity, where I didn't have to try too hard to Lik. My please other, because I am a people person like I like to please eve: Ake Sur, everybodyHappin, everybody comable, it's, I think thats eal. So I was like I need happy Mediam, so Ikind of knew that was going second, but Driv Day was like everything to me,because you think about, like the reasons of you, playin the spor andtaken it to the next level. So that was my next level and I look forward to itso question who was who had the number one pick? What team Lla IASTA was alittle too Hollywood, basically like ye Ma at momainteance, yeah yeah ierst me.I an understand that, because it's funny that it in sports with the Mina, the women, the Lakers in the sports, they both have very high profile. Likeyou know, that's just a a high profile team. The players are high profile, theteam Tafefal sinter. So that's actually interesting, because people usuallywant the reverse. You know people usually Wan n, to go small market right. You want o say no. I want to stay like I don't. I guess you can say its pressure. Idon't want the adit pressure that comes with what I do like. I want to be ableto enjoy what I do and that's that and then at end of the day. If you like me,you like me, if you don't, you don't Coolis your poice, but to be in thatplatform in that market. I think you have to prove yourself nightly beyond that. Iwasn't willing to be anigly, you do you do because it's like play for the Nicks.Like everybody knows hat you go play for the Nicks ythe media on you, but, like you said before I like goingon the Redo and I always been way, I don't like to be foolfront an a lotlike I like to just go and have a smooth setting. That's all RH. Can you tell me about, like yourrookie year versus like your second season, that you made your first allSAR parents, your second season, my Brooki year? I got hurt that year Imean I started off well, but ended up getting hurt, which was kind of Sucky, but I can saythat probably for like the first five years in my career like I was hurtevery year fo like that's wha,...

...because I know the fact like, I knowHat's the truth and you were still producing at that level and no one evenlike, I didn't even know I'm going to other team, but I I ve know you werehurt. I mean because what you think about you, like the background that Icame from like I couldn't n show like I was hurt with my brothers. If I look like I want to Cryis to mehome, so you have to suck it up and so and that's kind of the minset that Ihad. I was like hey look. Look you hear not everybody have this opportunity youplay to with you to. You can see the medical help and something with me touse. I'm like when I started. I want to finch I like. If I'm hurt, I'm going tofinish it and at the end of the year, then we be Aviwae what we ad and thenwe go from there, but my pferyear I was heard, but my second year I think, that's when I started giving h a lot of attention and stuff like that. Goi Ito,my you start to be in the whole s out o report. Yes, okay, so wo talked about you wanted tosay some worket. When you got breaks, then wo thousand and fifteenYoreecourso the trades of Minnesota wher. You cans talk about that decisionbecause I honestly, if you were Queso the trade you at that point in yourcareer, you could have went to any team in the week. Everybody wouldae Ben,like yeah, come over here. So why Minnesota whyl I'm Minnesota is becauseI had three people that I played with PorOlympic team on LYBIC team witnd that was Wendy to Mo and my at the time andbig fees bb who wouldn't want to play next to bb. You know and then a PO soerbefore vaguely not not much baguelly. Wetalked every now an then wit, nothing like too serious and then you how manytimes like I used to see you and be like Pope Wo. We gonna play togetherlike on my tea and stuff like that, and soit was like a win win situquestion for me, but it wasn't really. I Wun't even sayit was a Dema in trade. Ti was unrestricted. I had to fill mycountract, I pretty much. Let the organization know that I wasn't comingback and then when it was time to get traded, they like try O hbom Ye Andnoslike Dod, got three other brothers Youa. My Punkyeah, that's interesting, because you knowyou seen all the time I the NBA. Now you know how the players they alwayslike cover their mouth when they're talking and everything, because we didtalk about that. There's certain players that it's so funny. You justknow that you'll be able to play well with in as a player like, I know myskill set and I play very well with bigs like if I have a big big backinDominat t bas bars, I ever lay witif ihave a Bigbtheye teock becauselike, that's my whole goal, so we did talk about that. We never really you knowwhan. You say you don't know. What's going to happen, Wut I was extremelyexcited because I was just there at the same time, but I was going to say what was goingto say. Is that going there did you like? You canobviously think it's going to work. Did you know it was going to did youenvision it working out as well as it did...

...kind of, because I knew re and I yelike she like to push people buttons and you know Ha, I'm Gointo test your patience in everyform, the fashion I was like you know what it was it was. It wasn't justMinnesota. Actually I like Mytibo as well, so it was i Washington or Minnesota and then at the ND othe dayit was an overne to pick Minnesota. So how did you to meet before Theu Beind Wa Blat? I don't even think we ever Ofisha thinkwe officially met. I think we just saeout the game. One Danan I was likeHaybo and gave he hug and picked her up Iwas like how we you thed game today, and you now that, but it was always that good energy, that good chemistry-and I don't have that with everybody- it's red that I like people just andthat's I'm glad you said that too, because it's so funny, I was trying tothink people know how I am if Pyou know how you want. So we were too completestrangers that knew that that other cubin has the kind of energy that Ilike in Tha, imacertain point after the Gameson, the hastake. I we we literallywas just like Hso. He pickme like yeah cookboks for CISTER. Now that that therestless history yeah it was well, I got to ask them: Did you guys playVerse Each Other in College? Yes, yes, yes do! We, I think we, I don't even know. Probably youKNOWTHATI, don't know, because I don't know. I thought you wer. Ithought you Wasntcheney, that was Munchan threesleft em right. Obviously they had mown. I don't know if Moas was moved therewhen I was Workmo Wan Hem when you, when we playd it you guy, okay, I idnthink so so they had jou. They had ohtamikawats to me to there you makeworsom Ber Soali cat, no we'd be joanswe. Sixteen, I believe e Mo careful anyway, well anyways, so yeah, two thousand andfifteen. You end up Onin the WNBA chammionship. So what was that like toget your first rink? It was cool that', something that I was workingtowards. I think we made it to the finals rights when I was in Chicago andwe got se by Phoenix, and that was an io weader from me, because I felt like a lot of players who justwas there to enjoy the moment, but nobody really want to put inte workindso I was like yeah. I work too hard. This is not where I want to be so onceI finally got to Minnesota and finally got that First Championship. It wasalmost like a sensil relief because I had set up that's teason, the firsthalf and then coming in to me in the shoulder, happened to like figure outwhat I betloans and not tryining, to overstep my boundaries, and so itpretty much just worked out Tokayeah...

...two SANDAND, two Houdre and sixteen youguys lost right and then you came back and you wont you two hundred andSeventeen. I guess arguablly be your best season because you want the NBP inthe finals MP. Take me to I FFEN PAM and not a lot of people knowthis, but I just was struggling with some things like family stuff. So my mymindset just was on tha whole nother, Lov, two thousand and seventeen, and soit's funny that you say that I won NVP like that's Estin is like so like bluryto me, because I don't really remember anything. He in thing, I remember, isjust going out there and planing hard every night and it just pretty muchworkd yiurstelf out fat, Lus beace must be nice to just just go out there andwork hard and I get Nvdman. That's I'm just Aingta Ting to tell the peoplethey need to understand how good you are, and what about you think you can you'regetting better with age because it like seems like you progressively. I think once Attacke the main issue, and that was my hip. Once I got my hip reconstructed, Ithink that was th the say all. Let say Al because I was at a point where I waslike man like basketball. beat you welcome time. My I like this is watburns. I'm heard e yet and then somebody was like just get the chageand.I was like well what like that's Homei, you get when you old. I, like o Onc, Igot to tell you it was like Myi Day. I was like Oh this wiy three years ago, you know jusis Lok right, pposed to feel like yeah. I, as like this one, is supposed tofeel like waking up in the morning and not having pain and being in discomfort. So I think once I had my hip like reconstruction in e stuff, it was likenited day. So that's why people probably say I get better with time, because that was a big Chang in Yorf, my caree yeah. Well, you also startedin the eighth grade. So with that lad of a star I mean it would make sensethat you progressil to get better because that's your skip fellow et Gro,so you progressively got better your whole life. What like, why are youstill playing just carious like what is there for you to win? What is there foryou to prove? What is there for you to do like? Why? Are you still grinding? What's your motivation, I don't feel like. I have anything toprove at this point, but for Minestola, who has been good to me forthese last couple of years and knowing that we in TA rebuilding stage, I thinkit's only right to be there to make sure that it's done right. It's funny that you ask that, because Ijust had this conversation with Sheryl last night yeah, we just e Oandso, it's basically like she's at a pointwhere we know when the rebuilding you...

...so like. I guess you hearing a lot ofthings out an about that. Oh Seol, don't want to be there so mons going, and this thisis is that and she and she keeps like peeking like if you don'twant to be heur. Just let me know if you want to be somewhere else to playwith talent tes one I'm just like is Ab Nice Yeah. It is nice, and Iappreciate it to the Max, and I think that's why our relationship is is tighttight as blue butike. I don't feel like. I have anything to prove. I don't wantto go nowhere and have to like learn people wall lover again. I just want tobe in the place to make sure we're teaching kids the right thing andmaking sure they can be meust once they get up in age and that's my main Goa fo.So when you traine what what keeps you motivated like you know how sometimes, when somebody achieve their goal, like you know s like all right, I did thatlike there's nothing else you can achieve. So what is that driving forcethat keeps you at the top level? These young kids are coming there running toDem Fastan. I thinkin e a Doiigot to keep U with them. You Ot have to dothis color to USA, basketball and baby. When I tell you that I was like, I amready to quit. Tii Got the Cha cins like that for the next couple of years.Like I got two years on my country and I'm thinking about these two years, like so yeah, I got to work out to keep up IAM trying to get embarrassed bythese lovies, because you know baby trying to Berish you. Oh all fact, that's that's me. All Day, like I told I t I feel like I'm not going to beeffective, that's my live. That's that's IT for me! Yeah so I mean I cankeep up with most of them, but to keep up a whole game raby. So that's my right now. How can Istay yourfloat without giving Barris Budi? That's that's my mo all right somore into your ackleger three time, gold metalist. What it Woaesn't mean toyou to represent the USA. USA is a ball man. It's rerap that youcan get some of the best on one team. An just go out there and compete at ahigh level and beat up on other people show it's a blessing to be on team USA and Ienjoyed ever last one of- and hopefully I can get warm all right. So we talked about thesekids. So what advice like? Would you give the young kids coming in? Becauseyou know they do come in full of so you know it's funny becausebeing a vet now you've seen it were you'll see a rookie, comein they'relike so confident so excited and then Tradin cant starts to kill, Til, Keeland then Allo Sud. You see that I decrone. What would you tell a youngrookie coming in about how the Necbat of the League Be Yourself, be authentic?I think a lot of them come in trying to prove themselves in the wrong way. Just be yourself like people going taccept people who you are so that's one...

...beyourstelf to be sponge yeah. You probably look alot of things but and ILA TA think we're underrated about what we do untilyou actually have to play a game, and you realize how good you are and so beis fun stucking as much information as you can, but at the same time likeproduce in forms infession that you can as well, because you getting drafted toa team and everybody, in wit, team Privat, can do what you do so just findthose one or two things that you do good and then that will separate youfrom the reat, and so that's what I the vice. I have for these Youn n before we get into some fun question.I forgot to ask you about your overseas career to what was it like just goingover there in a couple different cupy, I enot like going oversea wat the same time. I think I was in a placewhere I just was on Auto Palat, because I knew why I went to be in the nextcouple of years and we wasn't making that money in wmade togro provide when I winmen to be so. I was on Allo Pae. I was like make thismoney this you gonna go back to do this wath you Gong inbest there and Oumakeyiur money gang money, and so I was in that mold, but I think after Hav teUS hi whell. I said I wasn't going to go and I had that breakat home andreaize I ha liht. It realize I Havyeah, I'm outgoing Oyouhave like you o T outwhat Hapen Toyeah. No, I have an office with yourstullwhat. She Su said in which house right right. I do Goti, don't have atropy room in his house. What Ilo actually got on? I gotone. I got oneother question before before these fun entertaining ones hold on hold up. You think, just likethe media or the people on the higher up ot the WB could grow it. The game just been a little more interest withus. No one therwe, don't guys do taking risk so many opportunities out theyrejust based for females, and I think if we can take that approach, somethingthat's based towards us like pcifically. I think we'll be okay. Yeah, like that. I agree. I think thatwe have to get creatives because right right now we have to kind of change thenarrative and shot the EP, because she really is doing that. You know reallyshe givs it. She has she's from the culture of you, know music. So she getsthe COL factors Lok. We are in the...

...right direction. It's just you nose theprocess Ouno. They got ta think outside the box. How what you said like that? Are we ready for the food questions? Yep Bl, yeah, you're, ready, you're,ready, they're going to go from average to savage wappe fire letot. So what's yourfavorite song right now, my favorite song right now would haveto be dage cat, dage whatev was't. what's he name news data cat Ta, youcat? I like how did you know that Renet Oi Getto Noy Sgas, but her name isDojca Oo cat. I like costbt, I don't even know her name, but hew songs bepopping right. Now I've been on her heart right now, all right. So what wasyour aim? Name, a well instant messager. What was yourname on AOL? ISNIT MESSENGER? Oh, my a name was chigalips hity I's gonna, be a great question foreverybody. That's going to be that's going to be the one making up with thatquestion. I said you came up with that question. No Yeah Shaga lips was ohwhatis that Shier Lipsaba. I'm scared to ask. I got name Shigalok for my siblings what it was. It's not a good thing, so I was a lit hot kid growing up, I'M A! I got boy on side of the house in third grade and my sister and my brothers used toroast me all the time. So they used to call me sugar loop to Piss me off, because I never wanted nobody to know, and so it was like I lokle secret. Theydidn't tell my mom, but every time they used to try to likemake me do stuff hot, wouldn't do nohing tey like ill write, Shiga lipI'm going to tell Mama O Lik, and so that was my name. SIGA IPS. Isthat exclude that might be exclusive, Gota caut kissing on Somea you hit Ohman, so anyways. Why do you wearthirty? Four thirty four was the first number that was given to me and I'm abig Fan. If kill on you. Yes, he is my Suokay Wel. Somethingtell us something that someone doesn't know about you something you've neversaid in the interview before we're going to hear it here. First Ha something you don' heard everything, but but I'veheard everything I don't know...

Ti have n talent. Do you Yo Wat, notfor nothing? You Tin, Tis, pretty well, wat do Putin, it O tem, nobody know, Wycan ait youlike Wa lit Reyoi can move or biggirl O, I n say: Thatsou Addon Thoselastd, poor, big girl, no Ia pput kin boot. I can dance so you're gotng to Tik some.I don't teink people know that yeah mge marry N Bay get married together, that' something t FA, O o. that's a fact. That's a fact: Wo putthe Garamets an you take or leaps sor you gonna get on Tiktock. Am I going toget on tick top yeah? No, you know iwoulhavebeenno.
